Ray is a seer who likes to visit her local bakery run by Marigold, a former seer, as well, who serves up baked goods with names like Romance and other wistful names. Ray befriends and later falls in love with Laurie, Marigold and her wife’s nephew who they’ve helped raise and who is an aspiring musician. There is a lot of whimsy here as well as tackling subjects that any teenager (and adult) can relate to, including navigating new friends, dynamics with our families, and trying to fit in at a new job. The artwork is stunning. I was not familiar with Stirling before this but I have sought out more by them online where they display a lot of their work.

This is an often funny, and yet poignant memoir by one of the most identifiable members of the Broadway community. I recommend listening to the audio as Fierstein's delivery lends another dynamic to the book.

My favorite romance author does it again, this time with a romance between an inherited owner of a vineyard and a romantic partner who returns to his hometown after leaving his job. A lot of fun romance tropes are here, including some misunderstandings and a forbidden love, but Guillory always manages to make everything believable in her novels. The Napa Valley setting is described in terrific detail, allowing for a vacation in the mind.

A frightening book about a not so distant future, this book follows a different outline than Ng's previous titles, but it is equally compelling. Libraries also play an important role in the novel!

I absolutely loved Iona Iverson, actor Emma Thompson could play her if that helps you visualize this character. She is no nonsense, funny, forthright, smart, stylish and brimming with qualities that make up a good human being not to mention a force to be reckoned with. Iona takes the train into London everyday and sits in the same seat, little by little she starts to get to know her fellow commuters discovering none of them are who each of them thought they were.
Clare Pooley writes delightful characters with heart (also in her first book The Authenticity Project) and cleverly weaves in a ton of very serious topics we might all do well not to jump to conclusions too quickly, about! Read by three Cary staff members so far and on the TBR of others, this book is certainly in my top five for 2022.

Never Have I Ever (Streaming TV Show)
I marked my calendar in August eagerly awaiting season 3 of this super silly/funny series, created, produced and co-written by Mindy Kaling. I'm not a huge fan of Kaling's acting but if she is channeling herself through her main character Devi then I love her!!!
Rarely do we see a young Indian female like Devi on TV, part nerd, part obnoxious, hormonal teen. Devi's life has been hugely shaped by the sudden death
of her father as she began high school and the trauma she continues to struggle with. Devi's therapist played by Nicey Nash and Devi's actions narrated by John McEnroe are the two most recognizable names (give or take cameos)
attached to this project which is just genius given he knows a thing or two about anger management yet, I cannot applaud loudly enough the eclectic unique supporting characters Kaling has created to surround Devi, breaking stereotypes over and over and the actors who play them, all of them worthy of centre stage.

Former One Directioner, currently touring the US and literally bringing the house down, Harry Styles is easily among the most famous people on earth right now and on this, his third solo ablum he is backing it all up with boatloads of talent. Quite frankly though a fellow Brit, I had no idea so many songs I've heard and liked in the last few years were by him, from his first two albums and they are all good, in fact many are VERY VERY GOOD. His music has wide appeal, incorporating influences from older (and some sadly passed) legendary British artists, the list is long, Bowie,Jagger, Bolan, Michael, Ferry, Williams, Mercury and the Beatles; HS was not even born at the height of many of their careers! In the words and melodies he co-writes, his public persona and live performances, Styles firmly adds his own stamp. He has definitely earned his own house and it is highly likely his name will be added to that sterling list above, in the future.
