September Newsletter

Message from President Dot Muir

Hi Everyone,

Summer is coming to an end soon and although it is still warm I feel Fall in the air.

We have had an eventful few months with at the Board with changes coming every couple of months at the beginning of the new season. I think we are now heading in the right direction. I am happy to say we are all working together to give our seniors a fun place for all.

We have looked after all the out-dated things that needed renewing and cleaning. We are good with the fire and insurance inspectors now. Thank you Georgia for making some of this happen. Our treasurer and myself spent some time with our accountant at McInnes & Associates, just to be sure everything, such as keeping our charitable tax registration in good order, is being done right. YES it is. Thank you Genevieve for your attention to details.

We honoured our volunteers with an invitation-only BBQ last Saturday which everyone there enjoyed. The food was fabulous and our own members' band kept us toe tapping. It was a very small thank you for all the time our volunteers put in for no pay. For making the event happen, thanks to Susan, Sam and their helpers - a job well done.

Without our volunteers nothing would happen!

We will be opening on September 5th for five days a week. We are going to try a hot meal each day for a start. If these are well attended we will continue the five hot meals every week.

President's Message, continued

Bingo will go to three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the 12:30 start time. Crib is on Thursdays at 11:30 in Jessie's Room. Line Dancing is Wednesday and Thursday. Good exercise and lots of fun.

We have a sign up sheet at the front desk for members who are interested in indoor lawn bowling. The Senior Activity Centre on Quadra gave us carpets and bowls for eight players, equipment in very good repair that they were storing but not using.

Some members have signed up for Euchre. Tuesdays are available. A coordinator is needed to get it started.

These events are open for every Seniors Centre member. Friends are invited for a $3.00 donation.

The chair exercises will re-start at the Community Centre in September. The "Fit for LIfe" schedule is posted on the bulletin board in the Entrance Hall.

That's about it for now. Come play, eat and converse with your senior center friends.

Have a fun time. Take care, Dot
