March 2024

The Women’s Fund of Door County builds, enriches, and nurtures the lives of women and girls through collective wisdom and philanthropy.

Dear Bret,

Happy Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day!

During the month of March, we honor the remarkable achievements of women—past and present. Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day serve as powerful reminders of the incredible impact women have made across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Here are some meaningful ways to celebrate women this month:

  • Support a woman-owned business: Shopping locally or online at woman-owned businesses supports women entrepreneurs and creates economic opportunities.
  • Wear Purple: Dress in the official color of International Women’s Day (March 8th) by wearing a purple outfit or ribbon to symbolize strength, power, justice, and dignity.
  • Express Gratitude: Send a heartfelt thank you card to a female friend, mentor, or role model. Acknowledge the unique roles she plays in your life or the lives of others.
  • Volunteer: Lend your talents to an organization that uplifts women and girls. Your skills can create positive change in our community.
  • Donate: Make a financial contribution to an organization dedicated to supporting women and girls. Visit our website to donate directly to the Women’s Fund of Door County and learn more about the organizations we support.

The Women’s Fund of Door County is honored to support women and girls not only during Women’s History Month but every single day of the year!

Grant Highlight: Gibraltar Area Schools Upham Woods Leadership Retreat

Gibraltar Area Schools received a Women’s Fund of Door County Community Grant in 2023 to fund the Upham Woods Leadership retreat for sixth graders. Students spent four days and three nights with classmates and teachers focusing on problem solving, teamwork, and building connections.

The retreat took students outside the classroom and taught them the power of teamwork and the importance of leadership skills. Through a variety of problem-solving challenges, students learned that everyone has something important to offer the group.

As one student explains, “One thing I learned while at the retreat was everyone works very well together when asked to. An example of this is when we did the peanut butter and jelly challenge. It was fun because we all worked together to get to the other side…. We worked well together there because we all shared different ideas to get to the same goal.”

The Women’s Fund of Door County is proud to support future leaders as part of Gibraltar Area Schools’ Upham Woods Leadership Retreat!
