While the year-round nature of JAG-K ensures that we are helping students prepare for successful futures every month of the year, February and March are particularly full months.
Following JAG-K Day at the Capitol, which brought about 400 students and staff to the Kansas Statehouse, we saw another 130 students from across the state visit Topeka for Senior Days. These events introduced another group of students to the governmental process, as well as to various businesses, organizations and entities in the Topeka area (see news release below).
Before February was complete, we launched into the regional round of Career Development Conference (CDC) competitions at four sites. (Take a look at a great video created at the regional event held in Topeka.)
Taking advantage of these gatherings, we invited businesses from those areas to meet with students in Career Expos. At the four locations, students were introduced to more than 45 potential employers.
On March 20, the top three finishers in each of the regional CDC competitions will gather at Fort Hays State University for the state level competition. Annual awards and scholarships are announced at this event as well, making it a culmination of much of what JAG-K does throughout the year.
It's a busy season, but well worth it as we watch students expand their horizons, challenge themselves, and learn about careers and opportunities that await them.
