In Fall of 2019, the Village and Town hosted Cornell University’s CaD (Climate Adaptive Design) Studio, which tasked landscape design students to re-imagine Ossining's waterfront for an uncertain future when sea level rise is anticipated to change the way all Hudson River communities look and function. Participation in this program unlocked funding for Phase Two, where a consultant team (in Ossining's case, HDR Engineering) works with the municipalities to see how the waterfront is currently being used and engages the public in recommending specific features (both in-water and upland), to incorporate into a design which may then be eligible for more funding.
On Thursday evening, I was joined by Supervisor Levenberg and staff from the Village and Town to meet with the community and review ideas, mainly those informed by community surveys and prior in-person engagement at Earth Day and at a summer stakeholder meeting. We look forward to the final recommendation from HDR in the weeks to come and anticipate using some or all of these ideas to improve ecosystems, resiliency, and educational opportunities along Ossining's waterfront someday, very soon.
