MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
Congratulation to all the winners of yesterday’s election. I am especially grateful to the community for trusting me with your vote to serve Ossining for a second term as your mayor. I look forward to serving with newly re-elected colleagues, Deputy Mayor Manuel Quezada and Trustee Dana White, as well as first-time elected Councilperson Jennifer Fields-Tawil. Congratulations also to our newly elected Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg and newly elected (to Ossining) Senator Pete Harkham. With a strong and thoughtful Village staff, elected officials, and grants from our representatives at all levels of government, I am optimistic about our future!
In Fall of 2019, the Village and Town hosted Cornell University’s CaD (Climate Adaptive Design) Studio, which tasked landscape design students to re-imagine Ossining's waterfront for an uncertain future when sea level rise is anticipated to change the way all Hudson River communities look and function. Participation in this program unlocked funding for Phase Two, where a consultant team (in Ossining's case, HDR Engineering) works with the municipalities to see how the waterfront is currently being used and engages the public in recommending specific features (both in-water and upland), to incorporate into a design which may then be eligible for more funding.

On Thursday evening, I was joined by Supervisor Levenberg and staff from the Village and Town to meet with the community and review ideas, mainly those informed by community surveys and prior in-person engagement at Earth Day and at a summer stakeholder meeting. We look forward to the final recommendation from HDR in the weeks to come and anticipate using some or all of these ideas to improve ecosystems, resiliency, and educational opportunities along Ossining's waterfront someday, very soon.
The Central Committee of Organized War Veterans of the Town of Ossining will hold its One Hundredth and Third consecutive community Veterans Day celebration on Friday, November 11, 2022.

There will be a mass at St. Augustine Church at 10 AM and a service at Nelson Park at 11 AM.
Village offices are closed in honor of Veteran's Day, but some staff and the Board of Trustees are working on the budget Friday, 4:30-9:30pm, as scheduled.
You're invited to watch the Village of Ossining's 2023 Budget Review process.

I'm proud to announce that the Ossining Board of Trustees unanimously voted to enact the Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities Homeowner’s Tax Exemption. The new law expands income eligibility for property tax exemptions by increasing the maximum household annual limit from $29,000 to $50,000.

The amendment to the current local law is a result of the suite of tax relief bills signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul, allowing local municipalities the option to raise eligibility requirements.
Our historic Five Corners intersection is getting its long-awaited makeover, with construction to begin before the year's end. The improvements, including updated signaling, lighting, and streetscaping, will enhance the Five Corners' 19th-century character and make it safer, greener, stroller-friendly, and ADA compliant. If you are interested in getting a sense of the plan, we have posted a rendering on Spring Street and Main Street in front of the Christmas Tree.
