From the Head of School
Dear Families,

Today we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with Fiesta, Goshen's annual celebration of our Spanish language studies, and man was it fun!

Maestra Maria Elena led us in our blessing in Spanish, we danced the Macarena, and we enjoyed a feast of delicious foods: Mexican beans and rice, chips with queso, Mango juice and for dessert, flan! We'll celebrate Fiesta again tomorrow with the Froggies, Ladybugs and Bumblebees. Thanks to the GPC for supplying all of the delicious food. The children (and the teachers) really loved it!

Wishing all of the moms and grandmoms out there a very happy Mother's Day! Put your feet up and enjoy the day. You deserve it!

See you next week!

In Friendship,
Mimi
GPC Read-a-thon Results!
The results of Goshen's second annual Read-A-Thon are in, and they are nothing short of amazing!

37 students tracked their reading in the month of March, and together they read... drumroll please... a whopping 2,439 books! Those readers raised... another drumroll please... $4,557! Thank you to all these super readers and their families and friends who supported them and the Goshen Community!

The GPC will donate $2,000 of the total proceeds to the Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center, a community organization in West Chester borough that provides a variety of low-cost and free programs to people of all ages in the greater West Chester area. Goshen Friends is excited to support this amazing organization!

The remaining $2,557 will be donated back to Goshen Friends School. The school will use the donation on programs that directly impact the students, including the new pre-k classroom, playground improvements, outdoor learning supplies, books for the library and curriculum.

Thank you to all the families who participated. We know all of our Goshen students are out there reading with their families every day. The teachers and staff are all very proud of all you super readers, and we are grateful to the GPC for this amazing fundraiser. Special thanks to Katie Fahey, Ladybugs and Bumblebees mom, who founded and chaired this event! Katie, you are our Read-a-thon Rockstar!

Spring Concerts
Upcoming Performance

Monday, May 9 at 11 am - Owls, Bears and Butterflies

A couple of notes about the concert, which will be held outdoors on the main lawn by the raised garden beds:

  • Guests may begin arriving as early as 10:30 am. Please be on the lawn by 10:55 am. The shows will begin promptly at 11 am.

  • We encourage you to carpool, as parking will be limited.

  • Please feel free to bring a lawn chair or a blanket for sitting. Otherwise, it’s standing-lawn only!

  • Want to get the best possible view of your little one? Look for the colorful cut-outs representing your child’s class at the “stage” by the garden beds. This is where your child’s class will be during the performance!

  • At the end of the concert, one class at a time, we will invite one family member per child to come to the stage to get your student.

  • Join us for refreshments immediately following the show!

  • Students who are going to Extended Care after the concerts will be gathered by a staff member at 12 noon.

We look forward to seeing you there!
Newlin Grist Mill Field Trips

Last week, the Ladybugs and Bears classes enjoyed a field trip to Newlin Grist Mill in Glen Mills. They visited the log cabin, met a resident turtle, and read the story Can I Play Too? by Mo Willems, about a snake who wants to play catch. At the pond, each student was given their own net to search through the mud and muck - they were delighted to discover small fish, snails, and lots of tadpoles. One student even caught a bullfrog! Such fun! After working up an appetite by hiking to the waterfall, the classes enjoyed a creekside snack together before heading home.
