Defeating Job Search Burnout

If you're fortunate to avoid job-search burnout, that's a good thing. It means that you're handling the daily stresses that typify burnout, such as feeling physically ill, being despondent or depressed, snapping at loved ones, and other symptoms of stress.

Unfortunately, many job seekers experience burnout.

This article talks about ways you can cope with job-search burnout. Some of them are 1) setting limits, 2) reassessing your strategy, 3) getting social, and more.

How to Write an Effective Summary Statement

Your Summary statement can be a deal maker or deal breaker. For this resume tip, we're going to show you the difference between the two. But first, let's look at four characteristics of a strong Summary statement.

  1. Express the value you're going to deliver to the employer.
  2. Brief (ideally three-four lines).
  3. Tailored to a particular job.
  4. Devoid of cliches and fluffy words.

Example of a Bad Summary Statement for a Project Manager in Data Storage:

Dynamic, results-oriented, project manager with more than 25 years of experience. Team leader able to motivate teams to obtain positive results. Able to deliver projects on time and under budget. Works well individually as well as with a team. Outgoing, hardworking, and extremely knowledgeable of high-tech industries.

Example of a Good Summary Statement for a Project Manager in Data Storage:

Project manager specializing in data storage software for mid to large-sized organizations on a global scale. Employs effective communication skills when interfacing with clients, increasing revenue up to 12% year over year. Completes projects > 97% by using Lean Six Sigma methodology and motivational tactics.
