Crunch in the Community!

Are you headed to the North Carolina State Fair, a county fair, farm tour, or farmer's market? You might just see the NC Crunch promotion as part of your visit.

The Farm to School Coalition of NC, NC Farm to Preschool Network, NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, NC Department of Public Instruction, and other partners are working to get NC Crunch information and resources out to farmers, farmers' market managers, fair organizers, and more community partners across the state. This might be an opportunity for school and community partners to collaborate for cross-promotion of agriculture and nutrition.

If you head to the North Carolina State Fair, visit the #NCCrunch station in the Got to Be NC pavilion. Also, make sure to visit the Field of Dreams exhibit where you will find the NC Farm to School Program Calendar Artwork on display. Snap a photo and share on social media using #FarmtoSchool and #NCCrunch. Tag @NCStateFair, @NCFarmtoSchool, @F2SCoalitionNC, @NCSchoolMeals, and @FarmtoPreschoolNetwork!

Farm to School Incentive Toolkit

Authored by Cassandra Bull, a recent graduate and research fellow at Tufts University, this report describes and characterizes the variation in 15 statewide Farm to School incentives with respect to their (a) design, (b) context, and (c) alignment to policy goals often attributed to Farm to School. Farm to School incentive policies strive to increase institutional local food purchasing by offsetting the cost of local ingredients through a monetary reimbursement. States have tremendous flexibility in designing these policies, but little guidance on the range of models in which they can use to develop an incentive program. The aggregated collection of experiences and classification schemes presented in this report will give advocates who wish to adopt similar incentive policies a way to identify program elements that are aligned with their specific vision, capacity, and regional context.
