Dear Yorkville Partners
In January and February 2022, the Yorkville Joint #2 School District embarked on a strategic planning process in order to define our direction for the future. The team consisted of community members, business leaders, teachers, support staff members, parents, and administrators. During the process, the team members expressed a desire for Yorkville School to increase the number of extracurricular activities available to our students.
In October 2022, we surveyed our students for their ideas regarding what types of additional extracurricular activities they would like to see offered. We then presented those ideas to our staff, to see if any of them were interested in starting/coaching/supervising any of these new activities. The interested staff members then wrote proposals for the club or organization they were willing to start.
The proposals included a description of the club, frequency of meetings, days/times, targeted grade level, and so on. Then, by looking at comparables from over 30 neighboring school districts, Yorkville’s administration presented recommendations for staff compensation to the Board of Education for approval.
We are delighted to report that during the 2023-24 school year, numerous new extra curricular activities including Forensics, Knitting Club, Gaming Club, Battle of the Books, Coding Club (1 & 2), Bead and Bracelet Creation Club, and Set Design Club have already started. Next year we have plans to add Service Learning Club and Chess.
