Future City has been approved with the STEM Council Seal of Approval for its project-based learning program where teams of students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future. Starting with the question, “How can we make the world a better place?” students create cities of the future that showcase their solutions to a citywide sustainability issue. We are excited to have teams participate from across the state.
This year’s theme is “Climate Change” and students will be tasked with addressing this looming problem with thorough research, innovative ideas and of course, teamwork.
The organization has two volunteer opportunities coming up:
-
The Future City competition is in need of virtual judges on January 21, 2023. They need in-person judges and helpers on January 28, 2023. Sign up here!
- They are also seeking special awards sponsors or volunteers. Special awards typically have a specific theme like creativity, best use of recycled materials, overall project plan, etc. The awards range based on the organization and can either be company swag or a small scholarship for students. Sometimes the sponsors are connected directly to the year's theme (climate change), but often they are a STEM-based company interested in supporting students.
