(H)artful

Hello Fatimah,

To say I’m happy that  fall is here would be a bit of an understatement. Don’t get me wrong, I  do love summer, but it’s too hot for me most days, and they haven’t invented drone misters that fly around you and mist your hot spots all day long. ;)

I had the awesome opportunity to drive back to Toronto from Red Lake and get to see all the gorge fall colours on that 24 HOUR drive. (If you follow me on insta, patrickhunter_art, you’ll know I break the trip up over a few days, stopping in Tbay, and the Sault for a couple days each. If you’re thinking about a road trip to check them out, NOW is the time!

Aside from the colours, another thing that excites me about the weather changing is that you  don’t feel as guilty about staying indoors. I get A LOT done, but because the sun’s out so late,  and the weathers so nice it makes me NEED to be outside and my productivity takes a hit  when it comes to painting. (For those of you waiting on commissions, THEY’RE COMING! Haha, and I thank you for your patience)

I have to say, having the pop-up shop has really got me excited for what a brick and mortar shop could look like in the future! (Shout out to OMERS / Oxford Properties for giving me this opportunity) For the last ten years, I’ve been so used to setting up at festivals in the morning,  and then taking it all down in the evening, only to do it all again the next day. Now that I have a car and a few employees, it’s much easier! It used to be just myself and a suitcase travelling around Ontario, getting rides from mostly friends but a few times from people AT the festival I  was at who were so nice and helped me out. It’s been awesome to see all my work displayed beautifully and what a future shop could look like.

The old saying, “if you can see it, you can be it”, and now that I see the shop, I WANT the shop… or something like it. My plan was initially just for a production facility in Sault Ste. Marie (across from Mrs. B’s pizza, because that place is insane!), but I think adding a shop in there is something I’m getting excited about too! What I’ve learned over the years is that sometimes the things you’re working towards happen a little sooner. Maybe your dreams come true not in the way that you would have planned, but I think the trick is to figure out how to go with the flow, and not resist opportunities life’s trying to throw your way.

That’s all for now!

XO,

Patrick &  Coal

What We've Been Up To

Thank you to everyone who's swung by the pop up thus far. Because of the overwhelming support, we've decided to extend the pop up. Until October 28th come visit us from Tuesday-Friday, from 11am-6pm. You can find the Patrick Hunter Pop Up Shop on the PATH underneath the 120 Adelaide St W (Richmond- Adelaide Center). We have in store exclusives like new mugs, planners and puzzles. You might even get to hang with Patrick or meet Nova our fluffiest sales associate.

For those of you unable to make it, don't worry we have plenty of new merchandise hitting the website November 1st.

Speaking of exclusives, the word is out on Patrick's new collaboration with Holt Renfrew and The Campaign For Wool. He teamed up with them and created an amazing wool blanket that's soft, cozy and perfect for Fall/Winter weather.

They will be officially available as of October 20th, however they are limited edition. Holts will only have 14 available for sale across all their Canadian stores. Patrick will have 20 available; 10 in store and 10 online. They will retail for $480.

So don't sleep, make sure to snag one before they are gone. It would make a great holiday gift for yourself or someone you love.

September was definitely a month of reflection with Canada's second Truth and Reconciliation day. Patrick and Indspire appreciated the outpouring of support from everyone that purchased a shirt (or tried, there's always next year).

We are proud to say that you helped Indspire raise a lot of money for the continuing education of Indigenous youth. Just remember orange shirts aren't just for September 30th; you should support the Indigenous communities, organizations and artists all year round and, not just once a year. Miigwech!

Many corporations pander to different causes whether it be LGBTQ rights, BLM and even when it comes to Indigenous rights, however some do get it right and start with educating from within. As great as monetary donations are, that doesn't matter if we aren't going to take actual steps to learn and approve.

Sonepar a Canadian based family company is one that is taking steps in the right direction. They reached out and asked to interview Patrick. They have been working internally to bring awareness and take the time to learn about Indigenous history and culture.(Click the picture above for full article)

MasterCard also reached out and wanted to educate both their employees and customers worldwide. Even though us in Canada are aware of the mass graves that have been uncovered at the sites at residential schools across Canada, even our neighbors to the south aren't fully aware of these atrocities and MC decided to use this as an opportunity to make the rest of the world aware.
