Weekly service is a great way to get involved, meet new people and make a difference! Students tell us it is often the highlight of their week! Engage in a wide range of activities serving children, youth, senior citizens, people experiencing homelessness, refugees, people with disabilities, and more.

There are service opportunities almost every day of the week!

Carroll Calculates tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with 5th grade students at Gearity Elementary School on mathematics skills. Tutors will be supervised by a Gearity employee and work with students in math remediation. Tutors are responsible for helping students process new information and refine their existing skills while providing them with positive encouragement.

**Only sign up if you have a positive attitude toward mathematics.

Carroll Reads is a federally-funded tutoring program aimed at helping children in elementary grades develop reading skills. If you are looking for a paid federal work-study position, this is a great opportunity to work with children in the community. Tutors are paid $11.00 per hour for tutoring twice/week, approximately 5 hours per week.

Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting one-on-one tutoring sessions with students using educator-provided materials.
  • Building rapport and cultivating enthusiasm with the children.
  • Assisting children in developing their reading and writing skills to reach grade-level expectations.
  • Weekly documenting and reviewing student data with the Carroll Reads Site Coordinators to gauge the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Regularly checking in with Carroll Reads Coordinators and Student Liaisons for continued training and assistance in tutoring.
  • Committing to tutoring two days per week, for ten weeks, over the course of the semester.

Want a TOWER TIME MUG? Attend Tower Time 10 times during a semester to receive yours! Faculty, staff, and students will need to download the Carroll Connect system to their smart phone to track their attendance.
1) Download the app (“DigitalID”) from the App Store (iOS and Android)
2) Once downloaded, click on the “DigitalID” app icon.
3) Enter your JCU email address.
4) Check your JCU email to retrieve the verification pin and enter it in the designated space.
5) Once your pin is entered, a digital ID will appear for you to show to check in for events.
The Technology and Digital Literacy Intern will help train, educate and provide direct technical assistance to the Fatima Center Staff, youth and seniors in their programs.

The intern will serve as a technology resource in training seniors and Fatima Staff in the use of computers, software platforms, and social media uses. They will deepen the engagement and confidence of youth, seniors and staff in using technology for essential tasks and functions.

The intern will report to Ms. LaJean Ray, Director of the Fatima Family Center. The intern will be hired for the fall semester, with possibility for renewal in spring depending on performance.

Requirements and desired skills
  • Proficient in the use of computers
  • Exceptional customer service skills and patience
  • Ability to explain and teach concepts in clear and simple terms
  • Highly dependable and proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving

Schedule
  • 15 hours/week; scheduled during the hours of 9:00 am-6:00 pm Monday through Friday
  • Work is to be performed in person at the Fatima Family Center, 6600 Lexington, Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44103
  • Pay rate is $11/hr

Are you interested in seeing Cleveland by boat and enjoy team sports?

Sign up for the Cleveland Dragon Boat Festival to take place Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Black River in Riverside Park in Lorain, Ohio!

Transportation is provided and registration is free. The JCU vans will depart at 7:30am and will return by 3:30pm.
