A Note from the Pastor

I am thrilled to have Grace Sykes in the pulpit this Sunday! Grace and her family are active at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, a church I served years ago, and I have had the joy of watching the call on her life grow through the years.

Grace lives in Lincolnton with her husband, Jordan, and their pet fish, Oscar. She graduated from Gardner Webb University with her bachelor's degree in discipleship in 2022 (John Miller was one of her professors!), and will graduate with her Master of Divinity, also from Gardner Webb, this summer! She is currently serving Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church as the Pastoral Intern but her goal post-graduation is to be a hospital chaplain.

Each March, Baptist Women in Ministry encourages congregations to invite a woman to their pulpit for their month of advocacy. This is a wonderful way that we can both encourage women called to ministry and also give them an opportunity to share their gift with the Church. I am grateful Grace is coming as our 2024 BWIM Month of Advocacy Preacher.

On another note, we are working behind the scenes on a new and updated website! With that comes the need for updated pictures. Rachael Bradley, who some of you may know, will be here on Sunday, March 17 taking pictures of Sunday school classes, casual conversations in the hallways and welcome center, and our worship service. Please mark your calendar and be here if possible!

If you would like to place an Easter lily in memory or in honor of someone, please fill out the form located in the narthex and return it to the church office along with a payment of $18.00/plant by Sunday, March 24. The lilies will be displayed on Easter Sunday with a list of names published in the order of worship.

Beginning Sunday, March 10, we will be hosting a group of NC State Students during their spring break trip to Rutherford County to do home repairs for those in our area unable to otherwise afford for the work to be done. They will be staying in our building the entire week. We would love to welcome them by providing snacks for them to have throughout the week. If you'd like to donate pre-packaged snacks (cookies, protein/granola/breakfast bars, candy, chips, etc.), please bring them to the church office by Sunday, March 10.

This Lenten season, you're invited to a weekly Community Lenten Service hosted by the Rutherford Ministerial Alliance. Join us each Wednesday beginning at Noon for worship followed by a soup & sandwich lunch. Click Here for the entire Community Lenten Lunch Schedule.

The Gardner-Webb University Concert Choir spring tour includes two locations near us! Our own Peter Moore is a part of this choir. The first concert is Sunday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church and the second concert is Tuesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Dover Chapel on the university campus. All other concert tour dates are listed on a poster outside the church office.

The ALC is recommending the sale of the church bus and van. If you are interested in purchasing either, please submit an offer to Tina Bean in the church office by March 6.

There are many opportunities for service at FBCR, and our Ministry Teams welcome your involvement! You are encouraged to join a Team(s) that fits your interests and gifts. Where is God leading you to serve? Whether you are interested in hospitality, landscaping, community outreach, working with children or youth, supporting the incarcerated, or visiting those who can no longer attend (to name a few of the opportunities!), there is a Team that would benefit from your strengths. More volunteers are needed to assist in the preschool room on Sundays during worship. Volunteers are background checked and trained. You are generally scheduled to volunteer one time every 8 weeks. No experience needed, just a kind heart for children. Contact Donna if you would like more information.
