It was a beautiful day to be on a playground as students in grades TK-6 were gathered in circles to read and share stories they had written at Ybarra Academy’s Writing Celebration.
“This is our third year that we celebrate schoolwide a Fall and Spring Writing Celebration. We love that our students are so proud of the work they have done and it is a great way to celebrate our young authors,” said Jacquie Robinson, Ybarra Academy’s International Baccalaureate Coordinator. “Readers and Writers Workshop is a way for students to view themselves as authors and writers and to develop their craft in writing. This starts in TK and they publish during their entire career here at Ybarra.”
Paul Hernandez, III, a proud Ybarra Parent (pictured above) was excited that this was the first year that parents were invited to the event. “I think it is pretty unique. It gets the child to express and really own their story that they decide to share. They are front and center and read to their partners and peers and part of the learning is repetition and sharing their voice. I am excited to see the growth that is taking place.”
