Local Government Summer Institute at Stanford


ILG’s Melissa Kuehne presented to a cohort of local government leaders at Stanford’s Local Government Summer Institute. This year’s presentation focused on promoting civility in public meetings, authentic community engagement, and working with community-based organizations to increase participation. 


Summer Sizzles in Stockton



ILG’s work with the Stockton Mobility Collective ramped up this summer with numerous community events! Team ILG worked alongside the San Joaquin Council of Governments to share clean, affordable transportation options like electric carsharing programs, trip planning apps, and stipends to help offset transportation costs.


Talking About Housing in Riverside 



ILG teamed up with the Cal Cities Riverside and Inland Empire Divisions to facilitate a conversation around housing. City managers in the region shared their successes, continued challenges, and opportunities for regional collaboration.

ILG Helps Local Agencies Tackle Workforce Issues


ILG’s workforce team has kicked off two pilot projects for our Improving Diversity Equity and Access (IDEA) project. These pilots are convening cohorts of local agencies in the greater Sacramento region to discuss and work through challenges related to outreach and internal policies or systems that may be creating barriers to entry for diverse populations. 

BOOSTing the Imperial Valley


Team ILG spent time in the Imperial Valley in August meeting with local jurisdictions to discuss their challenges and opportunities related to sustainability, economic development, leadership, community engagement, workforce development, and more. ILG will be working in partnership the Strategic Growth Council and other organizations to provide capacity building in the region over the next two years.

South Coast Air Quality Management District's All Community Steering Committee Event


ILG has begun working on our CARB Cycle 4 Community Air Grant project to identify best practices to collaborate with local governments and AB 617 Community Steering Committees implementing their Community Emission Reduction Plans (CERPs). ILG participated in South Coast Air Quality Management District's first-ever All Community Steering Committee Event to hear about what is working for those communities and how to improve local government coordination. ILG will use what we learned at the meeting to host four regional workshops across the state next year and provide another forum for sharing best practices and opportunities for CARB's Community Air Protection Program.

ILG Launches Sustainability Advisory Council


ILG launched our Sustainability Advisory Council in August, bringing together leaders from across the state in local government, philanthropy, and academia. At our first meeting, members of the Council spoke about emerging issues in housing, waste management, and environmental justice. We look forward to continuing to work with these amazing leaders!

Strategic Growth Council Blog: Why Historic Federal Investments Won’t Reach Communities with the Most Need – Unless We Act Now


With recent state and federal initiatives, California has an unprecedented opportunity to draw down game-changing investments to transform the state’s most overburdened and disinvested communities. Unfortunately, most of the state’s historically marginalized communities don’t have the time or people power to find, apply to, and implement public grants. Capacity-building programs like ILG and SGC’s BOOST Program help address this need. ILG is proud to have co-created BOOST with SGC in 2019, and through two cohorts, supported 18 cities and two regions to bring transformative funding, training, and support to their communities. South Pasadena Police Department Partners with SCE to Electrify its Fleet through the Charge Ready Program


South Pasadena Police Department (SPPD) has partnered with Southern California Edison to electrify its fleet through the Charge Ready program to become the nation’s first police department to electrify its entire fleet. The savings on car upkeep is estimated to be more than $300,000 over 10 years, partly because of all the money being saved on gasoline. This big step for SPPD is a foot in the right direction toward meeting the state’s clean energy goals which means 90% of vehicles need to be electric by 2045. Read more.

Creating a compelling, accessible website is an essential way for Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs) to engage with the communities they serve.
