Finding Your Support System and the Wisdom in Collectives

Hopefully, everyone had at least some opportunity to pause and step away from the computer, to spend time with family and friends, to take a walk or just sit and consider the wonders of how quickly time flies when waiting for snow and then, almost as quickly, we wish it was spring again. Regardless, here we are moving forward in a collective towards a future full of promise, even if not with doses of reality thrown in for good measure. (Read Marilyn's full message)

Making an Impact

Creating and Sustaining a Respectful Work Environment

At an institution as large as MSU, we don’t have just one institutional culture and climate but are instead made up of many. From the college or department level to a program or work team, each one of these groups has a leader responsible for creating and sustaining a welcoming and inclusive workplace. The past few years have pushed us as an organization to examine our policies, processes, and resources as they pertain to our different employee groups. While we continue to make strides toward becoming a more respectful and equitable place for our diverse workforce to learn and grow, we acknowledge that there is still more work to be done, and we are committed to continuing our efforts in this positive direction. Peer Mentoring and Professional Development:

Thriving Career Series

The Academic Career Paths programming and resources address pertinent junctures in an academic’s career–from when they enter the university, work toward promotion milestones, and transition into late-career or retirement activities. Throughout the month of February, OFASD continues to offer Thrive Workshops for educators across the employment spectrum – Academic Specialists, Fixed-Term Faculty, and Associate Rank Tenure Track Faculty; late in the term, a session specifically for those entering late-career and nearing retirement is scheduled. Recognizing that many details are decided at the college level, each session provides information on university policies and criteria, timelines, perspectives from candidates and reviewers, and an opportunity to ask questions. Check out the upcoming Thriving Series which focuses on the various stages of an academic career.
