Carbondale, CO – As planned, the Town of Carbondale will reduce the services being provided to newcomers gradually over the next two months. Beginning March 8, the Town will not fill vacancies in shelters and will officially close both of its shelters on April 1. Dinner service will end on March 22 followed by breakfast service on March 29. This plan was shared with all shelter guests on Wednesday, February 28.

The Town’s goal from the start has been to provide temporary resources to meet the basic needs of newcomers during the height of the winter months. March will be the big transition month as the Town begins to discontinue the temporary services launched for this emergency response while continuing to be part of a regional discussion on refugee support for the long-term.

In April, the Town will gradually discontinue the remaining newcomer services. Through April 19, newcomers will still be able to utilize showers at the Rec Center and the overnight parking/camping in the designated area.

“Currently, our community does not have the long-term capacity to serve adults experiencing homelessness–especially the unique needs of immigrant newcomers. The Town of Carbondale could not have done this without the massive efforts of volunteers, non-profits and cooperating governments, and we cannot do this alone going forward,” says Town Manager, Lauren Gister. “With the expectation of a future increase in unhoused immigrants seeking work, housing, and other services in our region, we hope to work regionally to create the infrastructure needed to serve the unhoused population in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys.”

Carbondale, CO – Como acordado, el Pueblo de Carbondale va a reducir gradualmente los servicios que se están brindando a los inmigrantes recién llegados durante los próximos dos meses. A partir del 8 de marzo, el pueblo no llenará catres en los alojamientos y oficialmente cerrará los dos alojamientos el 1o de abril. El servicio de las cenas terminará el 22 de marzo y el servicio de desayuno terminará el 29 de marzo. Este plan fue compartido con todos los huéspedes de los alojamientos el miércoles, 28 de febrero.

Desde el principio el objetivo del pueblo fue proporcionar recursos temporales para satisfacer las necesidades básicas de los inmigrantes recién llegados durante los meses de invierno. Marzo será un gran mes de transición mientras el Pueblo comienza a discontinuar los servicios temporales lanzados para esta respuesta de emergencia mientras continúan siendo parte de la discusión regional sobre el apoyo a largo plazo para los inmigrantes recién llegados. 

En abril, el Pueblo gradualmente descontinuará los servicios que quedan. Hasta el 19 de abril los inmigrantes recién llegados van a poder utilizar las duchas en el Centro de Recreación y el estacionamiento/campamento en el área designado. 

“Actualmente, nuestra comunidad no tiene la capacidad a largo plazo para atender a los adultos sin hogar, especialmente las necesidades únicas de los inmigrantes recién llegados. El Pueblo de Carbondale no podría haber hecho esto sin los esfuerzos masivos de los voluntarios, las organizaciones sin fines de lucro y los gobiernos cooperantes, y tampoco podríamos hacerlo solos en un futuro”, dice la Administradora Municipal, Lauren Gister. "Con la expectativa de un aumento de inmigrantes sin hogar que buscan trabajo, vivienda y otros servicios en nuestra región en un futuro, esperamos trabajar regionalmente para crear la infraestructura necesaria para atender a la población sin hogar en los valles de Roaring Fork y Colorado River".
