Dear Rising Tide Students and Families,
We are monitoring the weather forecast for the Winter Weather Advisory over the next two days, as I imagine many of you are at home. As of this evening, we are planning to operate school tomorrow as scheduled. If, due to the impact of the weather, we need to change our plans for tomorrow, we will notify families by 5:30 a.m. If you do not get any new notification from us tomorrow morning, we will start school at the regular time. Please note that school is closed on Wednesday for all students, regardless of the weather due to a scheduled professional development day.
Please consider joining the Massachusetts Charter Public School Association (MCPSA) statewide virtual Advocacy Week this week. The kick-off virtual gathering is tonight. You can still Sign up today to help us speak out on behalf of our school and our students! In just five minutes per day, over five days, charter public school supporters from all across the state will work together to ensure our elected officials understand the value of our schools and what our children need in order to thrive. Monday, March 13 - Friday, March 17: The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association will host a statewide virtual Advocacy Week.
Wednesday, March 15: This will be a full-day professional day. School is closed for the day.
Thursday, March 16: Rising Tide will host a College Planning Night & a Sports & College Info Night from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
Friday, March 17: There will be a social event for students in grades 7 & 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Atrium.
Monday, March 20: There will be auditions for the Spring Radio Play, Trap. Auditions are open to all students in grades 7-12, beginning after school until 4:30 pm.
Monday, March 20: The Rising Tide Board of Trustees will have its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. This meeting is open to the public.
Thursday, March 23: There will be a final trip meeting for families with students traveling to the Galapagos Islands from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the Atrium.
Wednesday, March 29: Rising Tide will hold a Financial Planning for College Information Night with a MEFA representative beginning at 6:00 pm in the Atrium.

This Week is The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association's Advocacy Week
The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association (MCPSA) is hosting a statewide virtual Advocacy Week all this week. In just five minutes per day, over five days, charter public school supporters from all across the state will work together to ensure our elected officials understand the value of our schools and what our children need in order to thrive. Rising Tide is excited to be part of this powerful week, and we hope you will join us! Sign up here to help us speak out on behalf of our school and our students! Spring Radio Play Auditions to be Held Next Monday
On Monday, March 20th, there will be auditions for the Spring Radio Play, Trap, by Stephen Gregg. Auditions are open to grades 7-12. Students should prepare two monologues with different characters and/or emotional tone for the audition. Auditions will be held in the Upper School Theatre Room until 4:30 pm. The play is available to read for free on www.playscripts.com. Any questions, please see Mrs. Tew in the middle school or Mr. Senegal in the upper school.

College Planning Night & Sports & College Info Night
Rising Tide's College & Future Planning and Athletics have teamed up to bring you two events on one information-packed evening! On Thursday, March 16, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, college representatives will be at Rising Tide to share information with our students.
College Planning Night ~ 6:00 - 7:00 pm
- Get an overview of the college application process
- Hear from colleges themselves about the range of options: STEM school, liberal arts, public, community, etc.

Schools represented on the panel (so far) include Stonehill College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Cape Cod Community College, and UMass Dartmouth. Additional panelists are still being confirmed.
Sports & College Info Night ~ 7:00 - 8:00 pm
- Hear from a panel of college coaches from a variety of divisions and sports about the athletic recruitment process and what it's like to be a college athlete
- Schools represented on the panel (so far) include Wheaton College, Stonehill College, and Bridgewater State University
(You can be ANY level of student athlete to play sports in college.)
Students and parents are welcome to attend either/both sessions. Panelists will be available after each session to chat and answer questions.

Financial Planning for College Information Night
Rising Tide will hold a Financial Planning for College Information Night with Jonathan Hughes from the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) on Wednesday, March 29 at 6:00 pm. This event is open to the parents of Rising Tide students in all grades. Mr. Hughes will speak about saving and paying for college. He will discuss the reasons and strategies for saving, savings plan options in Massachusetts, and the myths and realities about college costs and financial aid. MEFA is a non-profit organization and lender that offers education programs on planning and paying for college, as well as tax-advantaged savings plans, low-cost loans, and expert guidance in financing for families in Massachusetts.

Summer Painting Studio Enrichment Classes
Only a few spaces remain in each week. Sign up now!
This July, we will once again be offering two weeks of our popular Summer Painting Studio classes. These classes are open to all students in grades 5-12, as well as incoming students who will be new to Rising Tide in the 2023-2024 school year. Students of all levels of experience will expand on their visual art skills while exploring painting in this fun and informative studio workshop. Each student will be working with easy-to-learn techniques to take their ideas from small sketches to larger-sized compositions with confidence. Students will enjoy learning a variety of new application techniques to incorporate into their own style and creativity as they compose their own work.
Session One runs July 10-14 and Session Two runs July 17-21, 2023. Classes start at 8:00 am and end at 12:00 pm each day. The cost is $225 per week-long session. Joseph Staruski, Class of 2016
Joseph Staruski's early research experience at Rising Tide was pivotal in helping him determine his specialized career field. After graduating from Rising Tide, Joseph went on to study Philosophy and the Growth and Structure of Cities at Haverford College, and he recently completed a Master of Public Policy program at UMass Amherst. Today, he is working as a Research Associate at the George Washington Institute of Public Policy in Washington D.C. Read more here.

Aviation Maintenance Pathways at Rising Tide
Last week, Michael Sasso spoke to our students in grades 9-11 about the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program at Cape Cod Community College (4Cs). Rising Tide is exploring a potential partnership next year in a dual enrollment program with 4Cs' Aviation Maintenance Technology Program. We will be sharing an invite for a Zoom meeting for parents/guardians of interested students within the next week.

Accepted Students Day a Success
Newly accepted students for the 2023-2024 school year, along with family members, were invited to visit Rising Tide last Wednesday to take a tour of the school, meet school leaders and current students, and gather more information about programs and community life. Some of our current students gave dance, theater, and music performances.

Rising Tide Alumna Speaks to Students
Autumn Studley, class of 2020, visited Rising Tide last week and spoke with our tenth graders about labor unions and her work with National Grid Gas.

Fifth Graders are Growing Plants
Fifth-grade students are learning about the parts of the plant and are growing bean plants to learn about roots, stems, and leaves.

Students Learn about Pirates
Jessica Sheppard from the Whydah Pirate Museum on Cape Cod visited Rising Tide middle school students to talk all about pirates.

Breakfast and Lunch at Rising Tide: The state government has extended the eligibility for all students in our breakfast/lunch program for the 2022-2023 school year. This means that all Rising Tide students have access to one free breakfast meal and one free lunch meal each school day. Please note that students still need to walk through the cashier lines for recording purposes and will need their PIN numbers (located on the upper right hand side of their schedules) in order to do so. Rising Tide's breakfast and lunch program is catered by the Plymouth Public Schools. Check out March's lunch menu here. | |
