Happy Spring Everyone!
Winter in Vermont did not look like the photograph above for the majority of Vermonters. That said, thankfully the ski resorts fared far better—the other day we received a dusting of snow, while both Stratton and Killington received a few feet. A few days later it was over sixty degrees—the unpredictable nature of Vermont weather...
Yesterday, was the first day of spring, but not here in Vermont—it’s Vermont’s Fourth Season—Spring of Deception, when we’re all fooled to believe spring has actually arrived. We still have Third Winter and Mud Season before Actual Spring arrives—likely sometime in early May.
The Staggering Beauty of Lake George Dramatically Captured by Luke Dow Photography.
Thanks, Luke for your continuing support!

The Farmers' Almanac predicted severe storms and blizzards this season. However, it turned out to be the warmest winter on record with temperatures failing to reach zero. Snowfalls at PMI that normally produce 6-7 feet only reached a foot this year! We still have six weeks to go, but we’re not expecting much.

Our winter guests that stayed with us the entire season have skied 53 times this year. And, if we get some colder spring-weather, they may reach their goal of skiing 70 times. Despite the warmer temperatures, the snow has fallen generously on the mountains, which may provide some outstanding spring-skiing.

Total Solar Eclipse
April 8, 2024
Last reminder...When’s the last time you witnessed a total solar eclipse? Northern Vermont will experience a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. To witness this incredible total solar eclipse, you will need to be within the 115-mile-wide path… which is slightly north of Pond Mountain Inn. For the better part of two and a half hours, beginning at 2:14 p.m., we will be within the eclipse’s path of totality. Vermont is the ideal location to observe this nature phenomenon. One note of caution, you will need eclipse glasses to safely view the Sun. The last time Vermont had a front row seat was in 1932!

Baseball Season’s Opening Day Really Begins Today…
|
|
|
|
Meet Graig Kreindler, Artist…
|
All 30 clubs are scheduled to play on the official Opening Day, next Thursday, March 28th, however, the 2024 MLB season really begins today in Seoul, South Korea—a two-game series between Los Angeles and San Diego, marking the first MLB games ever in the country.
Let us introduce Graig Kreindler—The Painter of The American Pastime. Graig’s award-winning work has appeared in museums across the United States and has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Sporting News, Fox News and National Review, just to name a few. The painting above is Wrigley Field on October 10, 1945—the last time Wrigley Field hosted a World Series game. The Chicago Cubs lost 9-3 to the Detroit Tigers in Game 7.
“No other sport embodies the relationship between generations and the sense of community like baseball.”

Our Frequent Escape to Saratoga Springs...

Sending the Plates Back Clean...

First, a little about Saratoga... If you ask someone who’s spent a lifetime in the northeast, they’ll tell you one of the Top Ten Places to visit in the summertime is Saratoga Springs, or simply – Saratoga. And, it's less than one hour from Pond Mountain Inn! Saratoga Springs received the Great American Main Street Award (1996)—one of only 55 cities honored since 1998. Money Magazine called Saratoga Springs one the “Best Places to Live” and Travel and Leisure placed it on its “Greatest Main Street” list. And today, it’s still an extraordinary day trip!
We spent the day at the movies, walking Main Street, then dinner at Brasserie Benelux, on Broadway. Chef Armand has created a unique menu—blending traditional European-influenced cuisine with a contemporary flair that brings perfection to each dish. This future Michelin-star restaurant could easily be found in Paris, London or Barcelona—thankfully, Brasserie Benelux is here in Saratoga. See Our Unique Saratoga Springs Day Trip Itinerary!

Ice Fishing Shanty • Lake St. Catherine

Ice Fishing & Hard-Water Season...
|
This adorable shanty stands all by itself in the northern section of the lake with dense conifers providing a stunning backdrop—one of our favorite winter photos, and there’s more!
These ice shanties are often hilarious—not so much the inherent danger of depositing a structure atop a frozen lake, but the creativity of fashioning a temporary shelter with many of the amenities of home.
Look at the photo again; see all those things sticking out of the ice? Those are tip-ups. Through a drilled hole, an ice fishing tip-up holds your baited hook at the desired depth waiting for a fish to bite. Once a fish has snagged the bait, the tip-up pops a signal flag to alert the angler. There’s nothing more exciting than reeling in a big brown trout, and later having it for dinner! Read more about our expert ice fishing friends, Carrie and Kevin, just down the road...

New Jersey Breakfast Sandwich
|
We began serving our breakfast sandwich for our skiers to take to the slopes—then to our airport bound guests that didn’t want to miss one of Kay’s breakfasts. For those that never had one, they’re as simple as they are delicious… Fried Egg, Taylor Pork Roll, Melted-American Cheese on a lightly butter-toasted Kaiser roll or Vermont English Muffin. Before you read the full story below, click on the photo to see our breakfast menu—it's, arguably, the best in New England!

South Carolina White Grits
|
Grits—definitely a southern thing… Nobody eats grits in the north, okay, maybe a few, but you won’t find grits on any menu here! And, the not so obvious fact, grits are made of corn. Still, though, grits are a mystery food, and southerners are proud of their grits. Grits have been on our menu for a few years, but we only serve them once, maybe twice each season. Until now… I have a number of breakfast favorites, and grits are now on the short list. See why below—it's a fun read!

The photo is Amanpuri Resort in Phuket, Thailand—a property on the list that we’ve visited. The property is stunning with Thai temple-like pavilions, surrounded by lush gardens and coconut palms. Click on their photo to see what sets them apart…

Happy Belated St. Patrick’s Day!

Then, there’s the panoramic views of Lough Neagh and Slemish Mountain where St Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint, worked as a shepherd 1,500 years ago—again, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Which do you prefer… the motorized herding advantages of this vintage 1960s era E-Type Jaguar or the traditional approach handed down through generations using herding dogs?
