Dear Miramonte Community,
This week’s Welcome Back Spirit Week presented by our Leadership Class has been an absolute blast! We’ve had dress up days, lunch time activities, and music, games, and surprises all week long. Today we’ll all come together for our Welcome Back Rally in the gym, and tonight is our Welcome Back Dance. The dance is open to all students (free for ASB sticker holders, and $15 cash for those without), and runs from 7:00-9:30 p.m. at Miramonte. Thank you to our Leadership Class for doing such a great job this week, and helping us launch the year in such a fun and welcoming way!
Earlier this week, all teachers spent time with their classes going through our district and school safety protocols and procedures. Staff reviewed what we do during earthquakes, fires, and other emergencies so that every student and staff member is on the same page. We also completed our first school wide safety drill where we practiced our evacuation, communication, and attendance procedures during a crisis. In the event of an emergency on campus, I will communicate out to you as much information as I can as quickly as possible via ParentSquare emails, texts, and phone messages.
Lastly, I realize that not all students received their primary courses requests, and that can be stressful and frustrating. Our master schedule (number of courses offered, staffing schedule, etc) is based on student course requests from last spring. This means that we build our master schedule based on student demand and what students want and need. We receive additional funding from One-Miramonte and your contributions to help add course sections, lower class sizes, and create more AP courses, electives in the arts, and other classes that allow more students to have a great academic schedule. Like all high schools, we also know that all students won’t get all of their primary choices and will submit course request changes at the start of the year. Our counselors have been working diligently last week and this week to accommodate as many of these requests as possible. Because of their hard work, and our substantial funding via ONE-Miramonte, we have been able to ensure that the vast majority of students received their primary choices, and that alternate requests were only given when absolutely necessary. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please reach out to me.
I look forward to seeing you all next week at Back to School Night, and the week after that for our Informational Parent Nights. Have a great Friday and Go Mats!

It’s been so great seeing our students on campus these past two weeks and we hope your students have enjoyed meeting their teachers!
As some of you may know, Carolyn Vasicek is moving on to pursue a career outside of public education in health and wellness coaching. We were so fortunate to get to know Ms. Vasicek last year, and she enjoyed the opportunity to get to be a Matador. It's a bittersweet goodbye, but we truly wish her nothing but the best.
Ms. Vasicek has been helping out at the start of this school year, but officially moved this past Wednesday, August 17. We have hired a new counselor who will be announced soon, but that person's start date is currently not firm. In the interim, the counselors will be dividing Ms. Vasicek's caseload between them and you should feel free to reach out to the counselor that corresponds to your last name for support.
Low - Sy should contact Ms. Erika Vasquez
Fin - Lov and T - Wal should contact Ms. Ellen Conners
A - Fil and Wam - Z should contact Ms. Rebecka Zielinski
We sincerely thank Ms. Vasicek for her time and dedication, we will miss her deeply but are excited for her future!

This week as the days heated up, the Wellness Center became a very popular place to hang out and keep cool! Students are welcome and encouraged to hang out before school, after school, and during lunch and brunch. The Wellness Center is housed in the Miramonte Student Union, and we are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day. During the school day we are available for drop-ins and offer the following services:
- Individual and Group Counseling with a Wellness Counselor
- 15-minute Cool Downs if a student is stressed during the school day and needs a space to regroup before heading back to class
- Lunch Activities to build community and connection
- First Aid and Health Supplies
Next week, we will be welcoming all of our 9th graders to the Wellness Center. During their PE classes, they will come by for a short presentation and tour and the opportunity to meet our staff. If you have a first-year student be sure and ask them about it!
To refer a student to meet with a Wellness Center counselor, please click here. Anyone can refer a student: parents, teachers, peers, or the student themselves. Sometimes a referral results in a one-time check-in, and sometimes a student chooses to have weekly meetings with one of our counselors. We are here to help and support all students!
Questions? You can email us or call us at (925) 280-3936.
