PIER UTILITIES REPLACEMENT PROJECT TO BEGIN

Parking Lot 29 to be Closed for Construction Staging

The Oceanside Pier has water, wastewater, natural gas, electrical and communication utilities which support the fire hydrants, restrooms, lighting, lifeguard tower, restaurant, fish cleaning stations, and bait shop. Many of these utilities have achieved 35 years of service in the harsh marine environment. The City is preparing to update and replace the sewer lift stations and aging utility infrastructure beginning in November. The project is expected to take about 11 months to complete.

Parking at Lot 29 (image below) on the Strand, north of the Pier, will be closed during the construction. The closure is needed for the excavation and construction of water and sewer line connection points, meter, backflow, fire suppression appurtenances, construction staging, scaffolding and materials.

This $6.7M project is assisted with $4M from the historic American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which is helping cities across the nation expedite water and infrastructure projects.

White Concrete Pier Bridge Replacement Project

Access to the Oceanside Municipal Pier is provided by the concrete structure known as the Pier View Way Bridge, which also incorporates the City’s Lifeguard Headquarters. This structure was built in 1927 and is showing its age, despite maintenance through the years. The bridge needs significant reconstruction or restoration to address its deteriorated condition since it has reached its useful lifespan.

Please join us at a community meeting on Thursday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Center Library Community Rooms to hear about the recommended approach on the project and view intial renderings. The Pier bridge study and design is being funded by Measure X.  More information
