For the second year in a row, Lee College Board of Regents member Gina Guillory, was chosen as a finalist for Citizen of the Year. The program, which started in 1995, is hosted by the Baytown Sun. Guillory has served the community as an employee of the City of Baytown for 29 years. She is a member of several committees, including Communities in Schools board. The Baytown Sun hosted its annual Women's Expo at the Baytown Community Center, but for the first time, held the event in March to coincide with Women's History Month. Our own Dr. Marisa Moreno (pictured standing) served as an expert panelist.  She spoke to visitors about her role as Interim Associate Vice President of Student Services and Executive Director of School & College Partnerships. The Student Resource and Advocacy Center (SRAC) received a generous donation from the Pilot Club of Baytown. Items donated to Lee College students include food, clothing, shoes, home cleaning supplies and much more. The Lee College Huntsville Center was recently in the national spotlight. Reporter Elizabeth Trovall with NPR's "Marketplace" highlighted how the Huntsville Center prison education program prepares students for challenges they’ll face when they leave prison -- which includes finding a job.
Employees who have been with Lee College 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years, were celebrated during the annual Service Awards. Dr. Gregory Lattier, pictured with Dr. Lynda Villanueva, was among the many individuals recognized for their dedication to the college. Dr. Shemeka Phipps, Learning Frameworks faculty, was recently inducted into her alma mater, Mississippi State's Alumni Hall of Fame. Phipps says, "Earning this recognition reaffirms why I value education and chose education as a career path. My alma mater opened the door for my success, and now I am in a position where I am ensuring that the door stays open for many generations to come."
