COMMUNITY EDUCATION

EDUCACIÓN COMUNITARIA

We are excited to announce our second annual Forging Futures with Mountain Youth!

Join us for this amazing opportunity to celebrate all that local youth have accomplished, and help us ensure all youth thrive for years to come.

We will hear from the Director of Education and Community Programs at the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center, Alex Yannacone, while dinning on the some of the best food Beaver Creek has to offer.

Alex has an extensive background in implementation and trainings for prevention and intervention of mental health services and education. She provides programs and trainings addressing mental wellbeing for workplaces, schools, and communities across the United States. She is also a master trainer in suicide prevention trainings including QPR and VitalCog. Prior to her work at the Center, Alex contributed to the oversight, management, and delivery of a statewide child abuse and neglect prevention program. Additionally, Alex has provided therapeutic services to at-risk families and the refugee population within Colorado.

All proceeds from the event will go towards Mountain Youth's programming throughout the year, including Eat Chat Connect, We Hear U, and Valley's Voice.

Mountain Safe is the collaboration between law enforcement, justice agencies, and community service organizations in Eagle County. Together, we aim to “reduce crime, improve outcomes for victims, shield children from exposure to violence, mitigate at-risk behavior, and tackle substance abuse trends that are fueling violent behavior. This collaboration will ensure that care for victims and at-risk offenders is coordinated, tracked and evaluated so that justice-involved persons know they are important to the providers of services and that resources are available to meet their needs.

Eagle County Colorado is ranked in the 26th percentile among US counties for violent crime, meaning that over three-fourths of counties in the United States are considered to be safer when it comes to risk of violent crimes (https://crimegrade.org/violent-crime-eagle-county-co/). In partnership with Mountain Safe Response and Rural Violent Crime Initiative for Law Enforcement funding, we want to gather information about the impact of violent crime in Eagle County and how as a rural community we can do better. The survey information collected will help to further develop Mountain Safe and our County into a safer place. Please use the links below to access the anonymous survey in either English or Spanish:

Parenting Tips of the Month

Giving a reason for the answer to your children's requests is an important step in showing them that they are worth knowing the why. "Because I said so" is often used by parents when they don't have the time to explain in the moment. However it can also be taken by the child as a sign the parent doesn't understand how important something is to the child in the moment. We all deserve to know the reason we can or cannot do something. Taking the time to explain the reasoning behind your decision validates your child's requests, and gives them the opportunity to start creating pathways of reasoning within themselves.
