Using a variety of research methods, Global set out to understand the role UNSDGs are
playing within the Canadian fundraising landscape today, seven years after their creation.
Through survey data, interviews and research from organizations across the country, varying
in size, scope and mission, they are able to paint a qualitative and quantitative picture of
how SDGs have begun to permeate the work in philanthropic fundraising. They also
gathered case studies and quotes on how fundraisers and fundraising organizations can
meaningfully use the SDGs to benefit the work they do now, and in the future.
“Through insights gathered from a variety of non-profits, in varying sectors, it’s clear that the
SDGs are providing a unifying framework and common language for stakeholders, partners
and funders (for those organizations leveraging them today), and a real opportunity for
those organizations not yet incorporating them into their strategies to deepen their
alignment with stakeholder and donor values and priorities,” said Dionne Malcolm,
Associate with Global Philanthropic Canada and co-author of the report. “We were so
fortunate to have had contributors from across Canada lend their voices and experiences,
ensuring tangible take-aways for all readers.”
“We are overjoyed to share the third in our series of Knowledge Creation reports with the
Canadian philanthropic sector. We are humbled to bring together diverse, respected and
knowledgeable colleagues who contributed their experiences and thoughts on the impact
of SDGs in the Canadian philanthropic space,” said Guy Mallabone, CEO and President of
Global Philanthropic Canada. “I am excited to see how this paper will provide a
springboard for organizations to implement some of the UNSDGs in their own procedures
and practices.”
