As you may be aware, the City of Marshall, MN is considering the implementation of a rental inspection ordinance that will require all rental properties within the City of Marshall boundaries to be registered and licensed through the City.
On March 29, 2022, and March 30, 2022, the City welcomed all rental property owners to the City Council Chambers for a discussion regarding the proposed ordinance and its impacts to rental property owners. These two sessions were well-attended, and the City was able to listen and understand property owner concerns with the proposed ordinance.
We have taken the necessary time to further review the proposed ordinance and rental inspection program. We would now like to invite interested property owners back to the City Council Chambers for a final discussion regarding the rental ordinance before city staff brings the ordinance in front of the City Council for their review and consideration. To ensure that we have room to accommodate all interested guests, we have again scheduled two meetings:
Multiple family rental property owners: Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. Owners of single-family house rentals: Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 5:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be conducted in the City Council Chambers, located at 344 W. Main Street in Marshall.
If one of the meetings works better than the other, you may come at the most convenient time for you regardless of the type of property that you own. If you wish to provide input in a different manner, you may e-mail us at community.planning@ci.marshall.mn.us or mail a written statement to City Hall at 344 W. Main Street. You may also call 507-537-6773 with questions or comments.
Lastly, we are including some program information for you as part of this mailing along with the standard inspection forms applicable to your rental properties. We hope that the included information will help to inform you of the goal and intent of the program and answer some of your questions.
