COLUMBUS (September 3, 2022) — The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies (OACAA), in cooperation with Strategic Research Group (SRG), will release the 2022 State of Poverty in Ohio Report on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at The Ohio Statehouse Ladies Gallery. The press conference will begin at 2:00 p.m.

As economic opportunities change in Ohio, poverty also changes. To understand the local needs, challenges, and barriers, Community Action Agencies continually assess conditions in their community and expand opportunities to overcome individual challenges. The State of Poverty in Ohio Report has assisted in those efforts for nearly 30 years since its first publication.

“As we adjust to the new lifestyle caused by the pandemic, it is imperative we remain aware of how the pandemic has created lasting challenges for low-income Ohioans," said Philip E. Cole, executive director of OACAA. “The effects to the job market and rise in housing costs have especially impacted those making low wages.”

Using reliable data sources and unbiased researchers, the report aggregates available data to shine a light on barriers in Ohio. The straightforward narrative, infographics, and data tables help make the report easy to understand.

The 2022 report highlights the shifting job marketing, childcare affordability and availability, student loan debt, and housing costs. During the press conference, Cole and Tina Kassebaum, Partner and Principal Investigator of SRG, will highlight the report’s findings, discuss the methodology, and answer questions. Copies of the report will be available at the press conference, as well as online immediately following.
