This Sunday is Human Relations Sunday

The United Methodist Church celebrates Human Relations Day to further the development of better human relations by involving congregations in community and youth outreach through Community Developers Programs, United Methodist Voluntary Services Programs, and Youth Offender Rehabilitation Programs.

Specific ministries include the Community Developers Program, United Methodist Voluntary Services Program and the Youth Offender Rehabilitation Program. The fund is administered by the General Board of Global Ministry and the General Board of Church and Society.

Volunteers are needed to help

After worship on Sunday, January 14, help is needed to put back all the furniture that was moved last Sunday.

If you would like to become more involved in our Children's Ministry please reach out to brittany.l@maplewoodumc.org. Our next Children's Ministry meeting on February 6th at 6:30pm.

While Pastor Kim will be recovering from surgery for the next couple of weeks, Rev. Steve Wall-Smith will be preaching and leading worship. If you are in need of pastoral care, Rev. Steve will be available (314-369-7952), as will Mary Kunce (314-283-6953) and Kathy Schmid (314-503-1101).  If you have questions or concerns related to other church matters or have trouble connecting with someone for pastoral care, please email our Administrative Coordinator, Brittany Link, Brittany.l@maplewoodumc.org or 314-781-5902.

The funeral service for Daniel White will be Saturday January 27th.

Visitation at 10:00 a.m.

Service at 11:00 a.m

We are God’s Masterpieces,

We are meant to be what others look at in order to see the goodness of God. But are we doing everything we can to make sure this comes to fruition? Such as:

  • Making connections with others. Letting others know that they are loved beyond measure.
  • Praying that we can be the person God has called and created us to be.
  • Preparing our hearts daily to stay in love with God.
  • Doing the work God calls us to in order to make the world a better place
  • Being attentive to where God is working in the world and joining Him there

We were created to be God’s masterpieces but that doesn’t mean we always look the part. We have work to do. And it can be done. We all know people who are the very definition of a Godly masterpiece. They didn’t do that alone. They didn’t become that by doing nothing.

Think about the time when you truly did something God was calling you to do. Dust it off. And reshape it to do again.

We aren’t meant to be in a museum. We are meant to be public art. Show off all that God has done in your life. You never know what your beauty allows someone else’s to shine as well.

Until Everyone Hears,

Dr. Shannon Karfanda

Ephesians 2:10. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

A big thank you to everyone who helped with taking down the Advent/Christmas decorations. Since a number of folks got started while I was still eating lunch I might not have everyone's name so I apologize in advance if I've omitted anyone: Ray Jauregui, Mia and Abbie Todisman, Renee McDonough, Jojo and Maggie Meyer, Brittany Link, Dave Phelps, Tom and Amy Cordeal. Also a special shout-out to the person (Jeff Todisman?) who found the tubs for the Chrismons tree, and a thank you to Barb Riney for taking care of the outdoor planter decorations. The gift of your time is greatly appreciated.

Charlotte Phelps

Thank you to the many people who stepped in to help with moving furniture, etc to clear space for the floors to be worked on Monday! The church had people working in the Sunday school area, in the sanctuary to start putting Christmas away, and in the office setting up a beautiful and functional new space there . There were so many volunteers that all can’t be named but your work is greatly appreciated!

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!

MUMC Kids

We had a great time this past Sunday prepping blessing bags. The children enjoyed learning about the Epiphany and playing games.

This week we continue to discuss ways we can serve our friends, family, and community. We will talk about how to be a leader and what is expected of them. We will also decorate our own crowns.

The Children's Sunday School class put together about 50 winter Blessing Bags

DEADLINE for the church newsletter is MIDNIGHT EVERY TUESDAY; send articles to jbrx10@yahoo.com.
