ATBC Resolution on the Pantanal

In our most recent Resolution, the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation collectively call for a halt to the Hidrovia, a planned waterway that puts the world's largest wetland, Pantanal, in danger. The Brazilian government has reappraised a project to make the 700 km-long upper section of the Paraguay River navigable. This section directly feeds the Pantanal with its flood water. The largest collateral damage of the project will be the disintegration of the socio-environmental structures and processes in the Pantanal wetland. This area supports exceptional levels of biodiversity and is important to regional food security and cultural heritage. Please click here to read the complete Pantanal Resolution.
