From the Pastor's Desk
Blessed Holy Week, Westminster.
“It is the propensity of religion to avoid precisely, suffering: to have light without darkness, vision without trust and risk, hope without an ongoing dialog with despair – in short, Easter without Good Friday.” -Douglas John Hall
MAUNDY THURSDAY
There are a number of services from our ecumenical partners that I highly recommend. Beginning at 6:30pm, the listing can be found on page 9 of the Holy Week booklet.
GOOD FRIDAY
The Westminster labyrinth will open at 6pm with the service at 6:30pm. The service will be a time of meditation with simple songs, touching poetry, and silent communion as we enter the crucifixion story with the reverence and tenderness with which we enter our own experiences of the tragic and unexpected loss of life.
At 7pm, you are invited to a showing of God & Country at Salem Cinema, followed by a Q & A panel with Oregon State Senator Deb Patterson, Rev. Robin Lunn from First Congregational (UCC), David Gutterman (Professor at Willamette U), and others. See more info and/or buy tickets here. (Film runs through April 5.)
HOLY SATURDAY & EASTER SUNDAY
Family Ministry is hosting a 9 am Easter Egg Hunt for our children. Our Easter Sunday service is at the usual 10 am time.
SHOUT OUT
To all of our musicians and volunteers who offered one of the best Palm Sundays I have ever been a part of. We started the morning with the Palm Passion telling of Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem which was followed by the truly remarkable Passion Cantata: Light Shines in the Darkness.
YOUTH
From March 27-30, 15 youth and 4 adults from the Salem Youth Collective headed over to Reedsport, OR, for a time of service, fellowship and fun. Traveling mercies for the whole group!
SNEAK PEAK
In April, the first Sunday of the month (4/7) will be a special all-ages worship service. We will dust off some of our favorite intergenerational songs followed by a hands-on service project in Boulder Hall assembling LifePax for those in need. Please come!
Power to the Peaceful,
