We are excited to share this year's first-place essays in the Hope Babette Tang Humanism in Healthcare Essay Contest, which have just been released in Academic Medicine, published by the Association of American Medical Colleges, and Journal of Professional Nursing, published by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

The Window” by Courtney Polimeni of the Washington State University College of Nursing
The Nail Salon” by Federico Erhart of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
The essay contest is named for Hope Babette Tang-Goodwin, MD, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, whose approach to medicine combined a seemingly limitless enthusiasm for her work, intellectual rigor, and deep compassion for her patients.
The latest edition of the Jeffrey Silver Humanism in Healthcare Research Roundup features 12 recently published papers on humanism in healthcare, compiled by Dr. Bharat Kumar.

These papers tackle important questions, including:

  1. What are the care needs of patients and families who have experienced sudden cardiac arrest?
  2. How do race, ethnicity, and language preference relate to the likelihood of patients reporting diagnostic concerns?
  3. Why should healthcare professions education incorporate teaching about medicine, Nazism, and the Holocaust?

If you would like to receive an email alert when future Research Roundups are published, please sign up.
