Welcome to April, Class Leaders and Master Trainers!
It's hard to believe, but we are already 1/4 completed with 2024. I sincerely hope that 2024 has been welcoming and kind to you and yours.
This month's memo will focus on Frequently Asked Questions and program fidelity. As Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an evidence-based program, there are specific guidelines all Class Leaders and Master Trainers must follow. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and their answers:
How many caregivers can participate in a class series in person? How many virtually?
- The minimum for both virtual and in-person is eight participants. For an in-person class series, the maximum number is 15. For a virtual class series, the maximum number is 12. If your total participants are under eight, above 12 for virtual, or above 15 for in-person, please email ptcaregivers@iastate.edu to discuss options.
Can another class leader or intern sit and observe during class?
- The only people allowed to be in attendance for class are the class leaders facilitating and the caregivers. No additional people should be in attendance, even if they're a new class leader or a care partner to one of the participants.
Can I lead PTC in a hybrid format?
- At this time, PTC can only be delivered fully online or fully in-person. For program fidelity as an evidence-based program, PTC cannot be delivered in a hybrid format.
Are we able to update the scripts, charts, or PowerPoint slides?
- No. The materials associated with the 6-week caregiver class series and class leader training should never be altered without written permission from PTC Headquarters. This does not apply to the marketing materials found in the "Program Templates" folder. You can use and edit those materials to add your organization's information.
Those are just some of the questions we are asked regularly. If you have a question that hasn't been answered or something you're uncertain about, please email me at ptcaregivers@iastate.edu and I'll be happy to support you in whatever way I can.
Thank you for all you do for care partners. Your work does not go unnoticed and we are so grateful for all you do. Thank you for bringing Powerful Tools for Caregivers to your community.
Wishing you well for the month ahead,
Katie Anthony, Ph.D.
