Sunday, November 20th is Women’s Emphasis Sunday. The Women’s Day Chair is Judith Younger. Our women will be leading in worship for the broadcast as well as the in person service. Be sure to give a special contribution in the envelope labeled Women’s Day. Give commensurate with your capacity to support our congregation of believers in Christ.
Thursday, November 24th at 10:00 am an opportunity on zoom will afford us the privilege to express our gratitude for all the Lord has done for us. Prayers of thanks and special thanksgiving ceremonies are common among almost all religions after harvests and at other times. The Thanksgiving holiday's history in North America is rooted in English traditions dating from the Protestant Reformation. It also has aspects of a harvest festival, even though the harvest in New England occurs well before the late November date on which the modern Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated. African Americans commemorate and celebrate Thanksgiving as an awareness of the goodness, generosity and graciousness of the Lord in the particularity of the peculiar predicaments of our lives communally and individually. Amazing that we have emerged and evolved from the excruciating experiences of captivity, discrimination, and the oppressive structures of slavery and segregation, fortified with a faith that saves and sustains us with an attitude of gratitude, praise and thanksgiving. Let us gather and give thanks for all the Lord has done for us.
"In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Holidays are a time when everyone seems consumed with special time together and festivities. Everywhere you look there are reminders that this is the holiday season. Having lost a loved one, you may feel a terrible ache in your heart and in your life. When dealing with loss, we are caught in the dilemma between grieving and the pressure to get into the holiday spirit. This holiday season, the Grief and Loss Support Ministry will be focusing on how to cope with loss during the holidays. Please join us every 2nd and 4th Sunday in the months of November and December.

The Los Angeles Housing Authority is providing turkeys to families this Monday, Nov 21, beginning at 9 am until they run out. One turkey per family is being offered. Los Angeles: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles will host the “Week of Gratitude” food distribution, which will consist of hot, family-style meals from Cena Vegan and produce boxes from Support + Feed. Los Angeles: Thanksgiving Distribution hosted by Open Arms Food Pantry and Resource Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Leimert Park Plaza, 4395 Leimert Blvd. The center will provide 200 families with free donations, including infant care items, hygiene kits, blankets, toys, groceries and supermarket gift cards. Los Angeles: Jackson Limousine, 5917 West Blvd, will host a turkey giveaway on Tuesday, Nov. 22 beginning at 8:00 AM. It is a drive-thru only and the line will move quick. 1 per car, while supplies last!

"The Biden-Harris Administration launched a new nationwide Test to Treat initiative in March to give individuals an important way to quickly access free lifesaving treatment for COVID-19. Through this program, people are able to get tested and – if they are positive and treatments are appropriate for them – receive a prescription from a health care provider (either on-site or through telehealth), and have their prescription filled all at one location. These “One-Stop Test to Treat” sites are available at thousands of locations nationwide, including pharmacy-based clinics, federally-funded health centers, long-term care facilities, and community-based sites. In May, the program was expanded to include federally-supported Test to Treat sites. People can continue to be tested and treated by their own health care providers, health care clinics in their community, and telehealth providers who can appropriately prescribe the oral antivirals to locations where the medicines are distributed." |
