UBCM Submission on public safety reform

UBCM, in response to the final report by the Special Committee on Reforming the Police Act, has conveyed a report to the Province regarding policing modernization. The UBCM report, Preliminary Local Government Input into Public Safety Modernization, was developed based on the input and recommendations made by the Local Government Policing Modernization Roundtable (LGPMR).

Local Government working group on decriminalization

UBCM and the BC Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions (MMHA) are pleased to extend a call for expressions of interest for local government staff to join a working group on the role of local governments in supporting BC’s plan to decriminalize people who use drugs. Interested staff can submit their names and biography to UBCM by September 16.

Canada Community-Building Fund reporting deadline

All local governments in British Columbia are required to report on progress in asset management in order to fulfill obligations under the Canada Community-Building Fund. The deadline for submission of the Asset Management Assessment Form is Friday, September 30, 2022. Please direct any questions regarding the form to Program Officer, Christina Arsens.

Provincial connectivity funding program

The first intake of the new provincial connectivity funding program, Connecting Communities BC, will open for applications Wednesday, September 7 at 9:00 am PDT, and will close Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 2:00 pm PST. Eligible applicants include internet service providers (ISPs), or Indigenous or local governments working with ISPs.
