Hello Beach Family,


Spring break is just around the corner! I hope everyone is finding a good balance between their class schedules and extracurricular activities.


Here are some resources and opportunities to help empower you on your college journey:


  • Finances! We know adulting is tough to navigate. Learn all things regarding salary negotiations at Financial Empowerment Workshop April 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. in USU 303!


  • The ASI Business and Finance Committee provides grants to support your passions, academics and extracurriculars. Explore the available grants offered to students!


  • If you already have an approved grant, remember to email me your receipts no later than June 30 for reimbursements!


  • ASI hosts various events each semester. Check the ASI Events Calendar and filter by department, including the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC), Beach Pride Events, Student Government and more!


As our academic year is coming to an end, I encourage you all to take advantage of all these opportunities to help enjoy your college experience to the fullest!

The Judiciary met March 18 to approve its agenda and minutes, review announcements, hear reports and discuss unfinished business. There were no closing comments.

PRESIDENT'S CABINET

The President's Cabinet met March 18 to approve its agenda and minutes, discuss unfinished business and policy reports. Closing comments were heard from Belle.

Business & Finance Committee ASGV

BUSINESS & FINANCE COMMITTEE

Tuesdays - 3:30 p.m.

The Business & Finance Committee (BFC) met March 19 to approve its minutes, listen to grant applications, new business and member reports. Closing comments were heard from Nazarian.


Action Items Summary:

  • Business and Finance Committee Minutes, Meeting #23, March 12 – PASSED
  • Travel Grant: Long Beach Lunabotics – 2024 Lunabotics Challenge  PASSED
  • Natalie Tran – Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE) – PASSED


Reports:

  • Alvin Tu, ASI Vice President of Finance Announced upcoming Financial Empowerment Workshop. Shared they are continuing to work on a sponsorship packet.
  • ASI Senate Representatives – Achacon announced the board was introduced to SR #2024-18 ASI Reaffirms Stance Against +/- Grading Policy.
  • CSULB Representatives – Ordonez shared they are working with Student Affairs to streamline communication to students with remaining balances on their accounts.
  • Dr. Miles Nevin, ASI Executive Director – Shared a position opening has been posted for Assistant Director for Government Affairs and Initiatives.

LOBBY CORPS

Thursdays - 3:30 p.m.





Lobby Corps met March 21 to approve the agenda and minutes, listen to member reports and discuss new and unfinished business. There were no closing comments.


Action Items Summary:

  • Lobby Corps Minutes, Meeting #17, Feb. 22 – PASSED


Reports:

  • ASI Chief Government Relations Officer – Thanked the board for their remarkable job at the California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS). Shared they are working with Butt on a Lunch and Learn with Robert Garcia.
  • ASI Lobby Corps Vice Chair – None.
  • ASI Lobby Corps Representative At-Large – Tauro thanked Regina and the board for their hard work and dedication to the board.
  • ASI Senate – Mikhail shared that several students provided public comments regarding the lack of leadership and they received a report by parking and transportation. Majidi reflected on their experience at CHESS. Melendrez thanked the board for their hard work.
  • CSULB Associate Vice President University Relations' Designee – Announced that a beach cleanup event had been scheduled and reminded the board of the groundbreaking at the La Playa Dorms.

University Student Union Board of Trustees (USUBOT)

USU & SRWC BOARD OF TRUSTEES (URECBOT)

First Friday of the Month - 1 p.m.



The USU & SRWC Board of Trustees (URECBOT) did not meet. An update will be given after their next meeting.

IN THE SENATE, MARCH 20

Wednesdays - 3:30 p.m.

The Senate met March 20 to approve its agenda, approve minutes, hear member reports, discuss unfinished business including legislative business. Closing comments were heard from Ramos, Pearson, Hueso, Leon, Falcon, Pham, Segovia-Romero and Achacon.


Action Items Summary:

  • Senate Minutes, Meeting #25, March 13 – PASSED
  • Business and Finance Committee (BFC), Meeting #23, March 12 – PASSED


Reports:

  • Izzy Ahmed, Commissioner International Students Ahmed provided updates on work completed, goals for next two weeks and Did You Know this About my Community information.
  • Alec Colchico, IPCDC Program Updates Colchico and Isabel Patterson Child Development Center (IPCDC) staff provided a demonstration on how the Center uses dolls to teach the children how to engage in dialogue and conversation. The dolls hold their own personalities, identities and cultures that prompt questions and curiosity from the students of the IPCDC. They noted that their students were grasping the ideas of the dolls and has proven to be effective.
  • Gene Wohlgenzogen, Parking & Transportation Wohlgenzogen reviewed current department initiatives, fiscal year 23/24 capital expenditures, upcoming plans and reviewed news housing: La Playa Hall, they noted that 200 parking spaces would be affected due to construction services. They were reaching out to local vendors for overflow lots.
  • Mitali Jain, ASI President Jain addressed recent concerns regarding their leadership and reviewed year-to-date accomplishments. Jain noted that their duties require a significant time commitment alongside their academic commitments and requested understanding and support. They reiterated they are open to discussing any concerns and encouraged collaboration to finish the year strong.
  • Avery Morgan, Commissioner LGBTQ+ Affairs Postponed until next week.
  • Alvin Tu, ASI Vice President of Finance Reminded members of the Financial Empowerment Workshop taking place March 27, from 4 to 5 p.m. at USU-304. Presented the current BFC Status of Funds and provided the status of funds on the Spring Grants. Announced the Beach Investment Group presented their annual portfolio budget at the last Beach Shops’ Board of Directors meeting.
  • College Senators Reports Provided updates on work completed, goals for next two weeks and Did You Know this About my Community information.
  • Dr. Matt Cabrera, CSULB President's Designee Reminded board members to respond to the email for the selection of the Student Development recognition award.
  • Odalys Zamora, Interim ASI Assistant Director, Government Affairs and Initiatives – Reminded members of upcoming events including ASI Scholarship review deadline, Culture Fest, ASI Elections Reveal Party, International Student Alumni Mixer and encouraged self-care through the end of the semester.
