Hurricane Helene has truly made an impact in the past week. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this storm!
USA TODAY SAYS: "As of Monday, Hurricane Helene has already claimed more than 100 lives as the powerful Hurricane that swept through the Southeast left devastation and chaos in its wake. Helene is considered to be one of the deadliest hurricanes to make landfall in the United States in the modern era. The Carolinas, Florida, Georgia and Tennesee have all reported deaths from the deadly storm."
WHEN: Thursday, October 10th @ 9:00 AM
LOCATION: Enter at 132 Parkland Drive, Danville, VA 24540 (Entrance #4).
NOTES
- Arrive promptly (between 8:30 and 8:45 AM) so we can START at 9:00 AM.
- Volunteers MUST be age 10 and older to participate.
- Closed toe shoes are REQUIRED!
It is important that you read the comments for each job assignment for physical requirements. The safety of the volunteers is our TOP priority and some jobs are easier than others! (You will be standing throughout the entire assembly, there is NO sitting down!)
This will be a 2-LINE assembly so the sign-up is separated into the two separate lines! (Lines 2 & 3)
We cannot guarantee that friends/family/groups coming together can stay together.
Please be flexible with us in the event we need to move you to a unfilled job.
To speed up check in for non-registered volunteers, print and complete the form located under "Related Files." If you do not have access to a printer, forms will be available at the warehouse - arrive at a time to allow completion of the paperwork (one page form) so we can start at 9:00 AM.

DANVILLE, VA – Danville Community College (DCC) is excited to announce a new partnership with local favorite, Uncle Al's Diner, to provide affordable meal options for students, faculty, and staff. February 19, 2024 - Wendell Scott Sr. has been named as a 2024 inductee into the 2024 Automotive Hall of Fame. The Induction & Awards Ceremony will take place on September 19 and will recognize a selection of global mobility pioneers. Widely considered the single greatest honor an individual can receive in the automotive industry, induction into the Automotive Hall of Fame is reserved for noteworthy individuals whose efforts helped shape the automotive and mobility marketplace.

Averett University is pleased to announce The Honorable Donald Merricks ’74, ’91 has been named interim CFO. Merricks is a retired bank president, entrepreneur and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, and is a two-time Averett alumnus.
“We’re blessed beyond measure to have Don Merricks joining us in this critical role at this time in Averett’s history,” said Averett President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks. “He is highly respected and trusted throughout not only our region, but also the Commonwealth, and has a deep understanding of this community.”

AVERETT UNIVERSITY'S ENROLLMENT CLIMBS AGAIN | |
Averett University has seen an almost 7% increase in total enrollment this fall as compared to last.
With nearly 1,450 students enrolled at Averett now, the University is building on enrollment and retention momentum realized in the last academic year. Students from 30 states and 29 countries, ranging in age from 15 to 77, are studying in person and online with Averett.
“We are proud that our numbers have remained strong and grown steadily,” said Dr. S. Lee Beaumont, vice president of enrollment management and university marketing. “Every corner of our institution plays a part in this, and the strategic enrollment and retention efforts we’ve employed across the University have paid off.”

TECHNISTA, LLC TO ESTABLISH NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER IN PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY | |

Education consulting company will invest $1.5 million and create 15 new jobs to support Department of Defense contract.
Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced that TECHnista, LLC, an education consulting company specializing in curriculum development for K-12 programs in defense and advanced manufacturing industries, will invest $1,559,646 to establish its National Training and Technology Center in Pittsylvania County. The project will create 15 new jobs and support the implementation of a five-year federal contract with the U.S. Department of Defense’s office of Innovation Capability and Modernization. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina for the project.

FOUR IALR EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATING IN LEADERSHIP SOUTHSIDE | |
Four employees of the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) are participating in this year’s cohort of Leadership Southside – a professional development program offered through the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce. The IALR participants are shown below.
Now in its 32nd year, Leadership Southside is a leadership development program for the business, education, public and nonprofit sectors that aims to connect and build leaders. The cohort will meet once a month, focusing on topics like the role of a leader, self-management and the management of others and inspiring others to action. Several IALR employees have participated in past cohorts.

The Southern Piedmont Technology Council is currently accepting nominations for our annual Awards, with winners to be announced at the annual banquet (November 12th at IALR). Nominators and nominees do not have to be SPTC members, but the nominees do need to be in the SPTC footprint, which includes Danville & Pittsylvania County (see below). There are awards for large business, small business, and an entrepreneur, among others.
