Inside Student Government provides weekly summaries of all major board meetings within student government - the Judiciary, President's Cabinet, Business and Finance Committee (BFC), Lobby Corps, and the Senate/Board of Directors - as well as monthly summaries of University Student Union and Student Recreation & Wellness Board of Trustees (URECBOT) meetings.

Hello Long Beach State,


Welcome back to campus. I hope everyone had a restful spring break. Over the next few weeks our class of 2024 graduates have some important dates and deadlines to keep in mind:


  • First visit, the MarchingOrder portal through your student email to submit your name pronunciation and verify all student information is correct by April 19.
  • If you have not done so yet there is still time to claim your commencement ceremony tickets via the commencement tile in your My CSULB Student Portal. For instructions on how to claim your tickets visit, csulb.edu/tickets. Livestreams will also be available for guests unable to attend.
  • There is also still time to purchase all your graduation essentials, visit Beach Shops' Graduation Central for more information.
  • Check out upcoming grad events such as the Senior Send-Off and Beach Grad Day. Join in on the pre-commencement celebrations as you put your personal touch on your graduation regalia during cap decorating and so much more! For more information on upcoming grad events visit, csulb.edu/grad-events.
  • Students must make sure to arrive 90 minutes before the start of their ceremony to check in and receive their Grad Pass. For more information on day of instructions visit, csulb.edu/commencement. Additionally for stadium rules and policies regarding accessibility visit, csulb.edu/commencement/accessibility.

Business & Finance Committee ASGV

BUSINESS & FINANCE COMMITTEE

Tuesdays - 3:30 p.m.

The Business & Finance Committee (BFC) met March 26 to approve its minutes, listen to the status of funds, new business and member reports. Closing comments were heard from Randig, Butt and Nazarian.


Action Items Summary:

  • Business and Finance Committee Minutes, Meeting #24, March 19 – PASSED


Reports:

  • Alvin Tu, ASI Vice President of Finance None.
  • ASI Senate Representatives – Achacon elected 2024-25 Vice President of Finance.
  • CSULB Representatives – Randig reminded members the end of the year is approaching, therefore all college and departments received a memo to get records straight and turn in all necessary documents.
  • Dr. Miles Nevin, ASI Executive Director – Shared the ASI Awards/Installation Banquet are taking place April 27 at 10:30 a.m. Announced one ASI Maintenance technician was recently hired and Idris and their ASBO team are consolidating budgets.

LOBBY CORPS

Thursdays - 3:30 p.m.



Lobby Corps met March 28 to approve the agenda and minutes, listen to member reports and discuss new and unfinished business. Closing comments were heard from Regina.


Action Items Summary:

  • Lobby Corps Minutes, Meeting #18, March 21 – PASSED


Reports:

  • ASI Chief Government Relations Officer – Shared they attended the ground break ceremony for La Playa Housing Halls and they are working with Butt on Legislative Luncheon.
  • ASI Lobby Corps Vice Chair – Andre brought attention to events occurring in congress regarding athletes. Plans to meet with them and learn how Lobby Corps can advocate for them.
  • ASI Lobby Corps Representative At-Large – None.
  • Senate Report Mikhail heard presentations from Klaus and Zavala. Discussed the vote of no confidence held, public comments on ASI leadership and bills of interest.
  • CSULB Associate Vice President University Relations' Designee – None.

University Student Union Board of Trustees (USUBOT)

IN THE SENATE, MARCH 27

Wednesdays - 3:30 p.m.

The Senate met March 27 to approve its agenda, approve minutes, hear member reports, discuss new and unfinished business including legislative and executive business. Closing comments were heard from Jeremy Ramos, Luiz Ortiz, Fatima Zeferino, Ashton Ramos, Sierra and Debose.


Action Items Summary:

  • Senate Minutes, Meeting #26, March 20 – PASSED
  • Business and Finance Committee (BFC), Meeting #24, March 19 – PASSED
  • SR #2024-18 ASI Reaffirms Stance Against +/- Grading Policy – PASSED


Reports:

  • Charlie Soto, Commissioner Veteran Affairs Sotto provided updates on work completed, goals for next two weeks, and Did You Know this About my Community information.
  • Marvin Flores, ASI Beach Pride Events None.
  • Damian Zavalla, AVP Health Wellness Zavalla provided updates on the first Wellness Conference hosted at Long Beach State University (LBSU) and in the CSU system. Elaborated on Vice-President Lesen and their mental health presentation at John Hopkins and on their meeting with Senator Leon to work on a senate resolution for Campus Assessment, Response & Evaluation for Students (CARES). Reminded members April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and there will be several events on campus.
  • Jeff Klaus, Division of Student Affairs Klaus provided updates on the following areas: Housing, Basic Needs, Beach XP, Bob Murphy Access Center (BMAC), Career Development Center, Education Opportunity Program (EOP), Guardian Scholars, Student and Family Programs, Outreach and School Relations, Project Rebound, Student Conduct and Ethical Development, testing office, and Trio.
  • Mitali Jain, ASI President Provided updates regarding: ASI Elections voting, La Playa Housing Dedication Ceremony, the CSULB Research Foundation Board meeting, Lobby Corps CSSA meeting in Sacramento and future plans, Cabinet and upcoming meeting with Chief Diversity Officer Belle. Assigned ASI Scholarship reviews by the Thursday deadline.
  • ASI Presidential Statement Jain was not aware of the statement and could provide it at the following meeting.
  • Avery Morgan, Commissioner LGBTQ+ Affairs Falcon presented Morgan’s report in their absence. Provided updates on work completed, goals for next two weeks, and Did You Know this About my Community information.
  • Alvin Tu, ASI Vice President of Finance None.
  • College Senators Reports Provided updates on work completed, goals for next two weeks and Did You Know this About my Community information.
  • Dr. Matt Cabrera, CSULB President's Designee None.
  • Dr. Miles Nevin, ASI Executive Director Cicero informed the board that there was a new contract for maintenance on the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) gate. They would reach out to Mark Zakhour about the smells in the University Student Union (USU).
  • Odalys Zamora, Interim ASI Assistant Director, Government Affairs and Initiatives – Butt reminded members each government leader is responsible, per their position profile, to complete their assigned ASI Scholarships by this Thursday, by 9am. Stressed that any applications unreviewed will mean that a student will not be represented.
