HELLO

FALL

The Last Rivalry Game

Say it isn’t so! We are blessed to have many Oregon Duck fans stay with us each year in Eugene, particularly during football season. This season, in the view of this author, is an end to an era. The Oregon Ducks are leaving the Pac-12 football league at the end of this school year and they are moving to the Big 10. One of the highlights of the season was always the rivalry football game (previously called the Civil War) between Oregon State and the University of Oregon which was played the day after Thanksgiving. It was a time to gather with friends who support both teams and watch the big game, whether in person, at sports bars, or at gatherings at home.

With the Ducks moving to the Big 10 next year, the game being held on November 24th at 5:30 PST will be the last rivalry game, at least for the foreseeable future. The first rivalry game was played back in 1894 and was known at that time as the Oregon Classic. There were some years where the game was not held including 1900, 1901, 1911, 1943, and 1944. However, in two different years, 1896 and 1945 they played twice in the same season.  In 1929 the game was dubbed the Civil War and was commonly known by that name starting in 1937. It has been a contentious back and forth over the years with the Ducks having more wins than the Beavers.

For those of you attending the game in person at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, take it all in! It will be a fun and celebratory day for the victors of the game, but it will also be bittersweet for the winners, the losers, and their fans.

 What is Dynamic Pricing?

If you have been on our website recently and made a reservation, you may have noticed that we now have new reservation software. While we had no intention of changing software, the company that we used was sold. The new company was no longer going to support the software we had and was attempting to push all the current users into their software, which came with large booking fees that they encouraged us to pass on to our guests. One thing that we never wanted to do was have our guests pay any kind of booking fee, but unfortunately, most of the online reservation systems these days have one. Since we were unhappy with the large fees the software company was proposing we decided to shop for a completely new software package.

During that search, one of the things that every company promoted was the ability to do dynamic pricing. What is dynamic pricing? Have you ever looked at booking either a hotel or RV site months in advance, but you didn’t end up booking? Then later, possibly weeks before your travel date you finally decide to book and the price has increased, sometimes substantially. That is due to dynamic pricing, which is a variable pricing method in which the cost fluctuates in response to changing customer demand and supply. Similar pricing strategies are also often used in our industry for holidays and sometimes even for weekend stays depending on demand. A perfect example of this was back in 2017 for the total solar eclipse. Many hotels and RV parks that were in the path of the eclipse were charging two and three times their normal rate.

At Premier RV Resorts we want you to know that we do not participate in dynamic pricing. Our posted rates per site type are the same for everyone who stays with us. Whether you book six months in advance, a month in advance, or the day of as you travel down the road.

With this article, I am sure there will be a couple of questions about rates, so hopefully, this will address those questions. We do adjust our rates at the beginning of the calendar year, but again, we do not adjust rates based on demand during the calendar year. Over the years our pricing has reflected industry rates for our geographic regions.  Therefore, you will see some slight differences in pricing between our four resorts.

 Monthly Sites Available

As we move from summer into fall and winter, we have availability at all our resorts to welcome more monthly visitors. If you are looking for your next extended adventure over the winter months, give us a call! Currently, we have availability at all four of our locations.

In Clarkston, Washington while average temperatures in December and January are only 35 degrees, most of the time you have sunny days which can brighten anyone’s mood during the short daylight days. You also have a beautiful seven-mile walking path along the river that runs right in front of the resort.

Looking for beach time without the crowds? Fall and winter are some of the most underrated times of the year to visit the Oregon Coast. Join us at Lincoln City and avoid the tourist season. Come bring a book and hang out in our clubhouse in front of the fireplace after your walk on the beach.

Salem and Eugene both are near larger cities while being in beautiful settings. Salem is just finishing up a refresh on our theatre room. So, you can watch a movie on the big screen and then enjoy the nature trail that circles most of the resort. In Eugene, there is great wildlife viewing including a resident herd of elk that come out of the hills and down into the adjoining fields during fall and winter. In both locations, we also have comfy sitting areas where you can relax while watching TV or playing a game.

All our locations offer winter sites through the month of April. For more information, contact the resorts directly.  Pictures from top to bottom - Clarkston, Lincoln City, Salem, and Eugene

 Upcoming Holiday Activities

Does everyone else feel that this year has just flown by? It is hard to believe that the holiday season is just around the corner. We are lucky to have our RV Resorts located in communities that have wonderful holiday activities.

If you are in Oregon, start the season over in Lincoln City with their annual holiday tree lighting on Friday, November 25th at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Starting at noon, there will be an arts festival with vendors, a bake sale, and raffles accompanied by live music. You can also make ornaments from 2:00– 5:00 and at 4:45 join in the singing of carols as the countdown to the tree lighting begins. Enjoy cookies and welcome Santa at 5:15.

At our Eugene location, come visit us on December 9th and experience a small-town extravaganza! Christmas in Coburg has a wonderful holiday market filled with one-of-a-kind holiday gifts. Enjoy shopping and listening to holiday carolers with Santa ready to hear what is on the little ones' wish lists. As the day winds down, enjoy a small-town light parade throughout the streets. Located just a few minutes from the resort, you may find this will become an annual tradition for you.

Just outside of Salem, head out to the Oregon Garden. There you will find an incredible light display that winds through the gardens. This display includes over one million lights. Warm up by a fire pit and take a ride down the snowless tubing hill. After enjoying your stroll, check out the authentic German Christmas Market and enjoy a beer in the Biergarten. This event starts on Friday, November 17th. For more information go to silvertonchristmasmarket.com

In Lewiston, Idaho (directly across the river from Granite Lake Premier RV) the fun begins on Saturday, November 18th with Winter Spirit, a magical light display. The opening ceremony is at 5:00 with the lights being turned on at 6:00 p.m. at Locomotive Park located at the north entrance of the historic downtown area. Lights will be on daily through the first weekend in January with live music on most evenings. This event was started by Larry Kopczynski and you can read how the display developed over the years here: winterspirit
