Dear Residents -

What a few weeks we’ve had! Last week ended with an earthquake, this week started with a solar eclipse and, on Wednesday, a fire at Town Hall. The fire was in the old section of the building and was caused by contractors who were attempting to cut a steel beam with an acetylene torch. The torch ignited insulation in a wall cavity and caused smoke, which activated the fire alarm. Fortunately, no one was injured and, as always, our volunteer first responders did a fantastic job. Thanks to the Orangeburg, Piermont and Sparkill/Palisades Fire Departments, and the Pearl River Excelsior Engine Company, as well as the South Orangetown Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics, who all arrived prepared and ready to go.

Last Saturday, we had a great turnout at the Tappan Firehouse/Town of Orangetown Cleanup. With over 80 volunteers, approximately 1,500 pounds of garbage were picked up. For those who missed it but would still like to do their part to keep Orangetown beautiful, there are still plenty of cleanups, including the Pearl River Lions Club Cleanup tomorrow, starting at 10 am at the Central Avenue Field Gazebo.

Tomorrow is a busy day in Orangetown. Our favorite Town Clerk, Rosanna Sfraga, will be hosting her semi-annual Paper Shredding and Non-Perishable Food Collection Event at Town Hall from 8:00 am to 11:30 am. In addition, there will be an Earth Day Fair at the Palisades Community Center from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. And last but not least, from 12 pm to 7 pm, the Pearl River School District Community is coming together at the Central Avenue Field to raise funds for the Kayla Fitzpatrick Scholarship. So many great things to do!

Sunday is another busy day, with the Nyack Springfest Street Fair from 10 am to 5 pm in Nyack and, from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, the Dan Sullivan Foundation, in association with the Rockland-Bergen Music Festival, will be hosting a one-day concert at the Rockland Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Orangeburg to help two friends in need. Both Tim O'Donohue and Greg Lykins are dealing with cancer treatments and, besides medical costs, have loss of income while battling their respective fights. Please consider attending or donating

So far, the weather looks to be promising this weekend. Whatever you choose to do, have fun and be safe!

Regards –
