Students to witness solar eclipse on Monday

On Monday, April 8, North America will experience a total solar eclipse, and North Texas is positioned to witness one of the best possible views of the eclipse because of the path of the moon.

To provide students and staff with the ability to watch the event free of harm to the eyes, special eclipse glasses will be provided to every student and staff member. The Northwest ISD Education Foundation graciously donated more than 30,000 glasses, and the Perot Museum contributed thousands more. The glasses provide the ability to safely view the solar eclipse both in advance of the eclipse occurring and throughout the historic experience.

Prior to the day of the eclipse, students will have time to learn more about the science of the eclipse. Depending on the grade level and content, lessons will be shared with teachers to use with their students to explore this phenomenon.

If families do not want their child to go outside to view the eclipse, please complete this Opt-Out Form by April 5. Students who have submitted an Opt-Out Form may view the eclipse on a television or computer projected onto a screen via a live stream under the supervision of school staff.

Record 25 Steele ECHS students earn associate degrees

A record 25 seniors from James M. Steele Early College High School will walk across the stage twice in May as they will accept their associate degrees from Tarrant County College just one week prior to receiving their official high school diplomas.

Officially designated as an Early College High School by the Texas Education Agency, Steele provides students with a career and collegiate-focused advanced learning environment. Students are able to maximize their competitive advantage by enrolling in dual credit high school and collegiate classes.

Steele ECHS focuses on Texas Core courses – those that will transfer to all Texas public colleges and universities – as well as supporting students as they pursue their associate degrees through Tarrant County College. Students have the opportunity to complete two years of their collegiate education and can be classified as sophomores or juniors when enrolling in a four-year college.

Steele students in the Class of 2024 will leave high school having earned a total of 1,828 dual credit college hours, saving themselves and their families thousands of dollars in tuition.

Prepare for online enrollment by accessing HAC

In preparation for online enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year opening on Monday, April 15, families are encouraged to ensure they know the login information for their parent/guardian Home Access Center accounts. As with previous years, online enrollment will be accessible only through the parent/guardian HAC account, not the student account. Families who experience issues logging in should contact their school's front office for assistance.

Online enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year opens for families of both new and returning students on April 15. For families of returning students, most information will be pre-filled with the current information on file for their children. Northwest ISD strongly encourages families to enroll as early as possible, as this helps schools more accurately project their enrollment figures and the number of new teachers needed, limiting the class balancing that takes place after the school year begins.
