Hundreds of attendees focus on building coalitions during Urban Food Systems Symposium

Integrating culture and collaboration were the topics at the forefront of the 2022 Urban Food Systems Symposium. Held Sept. 26-28 at the historic Hotel Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri, the symposium was attended by more than 200 community leaders, urban planners, not-for-profit administrators, educators, researchers, students and others interested in urban food systems and their role in global food security.

Kansas City One Health Day is Nov. 1

Microplastics are a serious crisis for human, environmental and animal health. KC One Health Day is a free event open to the community. It will have experts in microplastics from the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, University of Missouri and University of Missouri-Kansas City share research and what we know about the impact of microplastics on humans, animals and the environment.

K-State launches statewide community visit initiative; Greater KC visit Nov. 2 

K-State is launching a new presidential initiative focused on the people of Kansas and their communities. Every academic year, K-State leadership will visit nine communities throughout the state to listen and learn from the Kansans who live there. A visit with the Greater Kansas City community will be Wednesday, Nov. 2.

K-State President Richard Linton (right) and K-State Olathe Dean and CEO Ben Wolfe (left) met with members of the Agribusiness Council of Kansas City. The council hosted its most recent meeting at K-State Olathe, where members got an update about the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility in Manhattan, Kansas. 

Addie Alder, master's student in the M.S. in Veterinary Biomedical Science program, recently gave her defense on "Infectious Bursal Disease in Poultry: Current and Potential Strategies in Vaccine Development." Alder, who is a poultry viral vaccine tech II at Ceva Animal Health, is advised by Paige Adams, Ph.D., teaching associate professor of veterinary medicine.

Martin Talavera, Ph.D., assistant professor of sensory analysis and consumer behavior, was featured in WalletHub's recent article about the "Best Foodie Cities in America."
