THE METHODIST MESSENGER

Making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.

"I saw a Facebook funny the other day that said, “I wouldn’t do much for a Klondike Bar, but I’d do some real sketchy stuff for some crawfish!" Simply put, the person speaking likes crawfish way more than Klondike ice cream bars.  I tend to agree… but that’s not the point. As we approach the end of Lent, we would probably do well to ask ourselves, “What would we do for Jesus.”

Jesus faced betrayal and was left all alone. He went to the cross for us. He suffered

an unimaginably cruel beating at the hands of Roman soldiers. He did this because it would honor God. He was obedient to a higher spiritual calling. It was compassion and passion combined. It was love, mercy and grace, unified in action. It was a choice,

His choice. It was a choice that only Jesus could make for himself. We all make our own choices and then we own what happens next.

When it comes to our faith choices, are we in the shallow end or are we in the deep end? We all start off in the shallow end, but we are supposed to gain experience, strength, and wisdom as we grow in faith. The deep end is a bit scarier; we can’t touch the bottom in the deep end. God’s love is limitless, it is unfathomable. When we move outside of our comfort zones to be bold faithful witnesses for our Lord, what we are doing is more than stepping out in faith. What we are doing is trusting

in the glorious depths of the riches of God’s love for us and the world.

As a person of faith, the question is not so much, “What would you do for Jesus?" Rather, the question is, knowing what you know about Jesus’ sacrifice for you,

What ARE you doing with your new life in Jesus? Is he asking too much to follow him? I believe that we are being asked to do the doable, and we can do it, one small choice at a time. This, my friends, is what a modern-day disciple looks like. We choose the Lord of Life for directing our living. We choose to live in the depths of the passion and joy of Jesus. We simply choose to be like Jesus! See ya Palm Sunday!

Blessings,

Pastor Malcolm

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he,

humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Zechariah 9:9

Zechariah, the Prophet, wrote these Old Testament words approximately 500 years before Christ's birth,

and yet, our Father in Heaven spoke through him to tell of a savior yet to come! As the words to the popular song, Lord of the Dance, say, "they wouldn't listen" to the words of the holy prophets. So often in our lives today, our ears are having difficulty filtering truth through all the noise of the media. Every news broadcast has their opinion. Even the churches debate their interpretation of the scriptures. But God's Word stands alone. What was spoken through Zechariah in the Old Testament was our Heavenly Father's promise of a Savior to come, right down to the description of His person humbly riding on a donkey! Jesus is still our King of Kings and Lord of Lords. His triumphal entry into Jerusalem should be reflected daily as we celebrate His triumphal entry into our hearts as our Lord and Savior. Hallelujah! Father God, help us to look this week at our hearts to see if we are truly celebrating Your amazing gift of Salvation. Forgive us where we tend to not listen to the truth. Strengthen our faith in Your Holy Word. Let us rejoice in Your love, Your wisdom, and the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our King of Kings! Amen
