Follow us on Social Media
As we welcome the arrival of April, we can't help but reflect on the incredible impact that our supporters have had on Adopt a Golden Atlanta. It is your unwavering dedication and generosity that have allowed us to continue rescuing and caring for golden retrievers in need.

Without you, we simply would not exist today. Your donations, volunteer hours, and kind words of encouragement have kept us going through the most challenging of times. We are constantly inspired by the love and compassion you show for these amazing dogs, and we are grateful to have you by our side in our mission to give them the second chance they deserve.
Looking ahead to the coming months, we are excited to continue our work of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming golden retrievers in need. But we cannot do it alone. We need your continued support to make sure that we can provide the best care possible for these precious pups.

Whether you are able to make a donation, volunteer your time, or simply share our mission with your friends and family, your support makes a world of difference to us and to the golden retrievers we serve.
Thank you for being a part of our community, and for all that you do to help us give these dogs a new lease on life.

With gratitude,
Adopt a Golden Atlanta

Check Your Dog Once A Month on the 14th!
Now how exactly do you do this?
Facts about Cancer in Dogs
Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.

It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home. Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog. We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Checking your dog will be a great little bonding time with your dog. If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.
Now how exactly do you do this?
Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.

Also, make sure you keep a journal of each of your Check Your Dog days so you will have notes to compare with should something arise.

Pupdate: Mags
(formerly Lyra)
Last June, we welcomed Mags, formerly known as Lyra, into our home. Mags is one of Sky's puppies, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her in our lives.
Adopting a furry friend had been on our minds for quite some time. We had planned to wait until after our trip to Italy in May to submit our application. However, upon our return, we submitted it right away, not expecting to hear back so soon. To our surprise, the very next day, we received a call to meet Lyra, and it was love at first sight. We knew she was meant to be a part of our family.

Mags is a little ball of sunshine and brings joy to our lives every day. She greets us each morning with a toy in her mouth and a wagging tail, excited to start a new day. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious, and we can all learn from her positive outlook.
She adores her big brother Jasper, her favorite spatula (yes, you read that right!), and her vast backyard. She could spend all day outside if we let her. We cherish her company and are grateful to have her in our family.

Thank you, AGA, for bringing Mags into our lives. We are looking forward to many happy years with our sweet girl.
ASK THE TRAINER
Obedience Training May Not Be the Answer
If your dog is doing things like barking at strangers, trying to go after other dogs or destroying furniture while you are away, then reward-based training, not obedience training is what your dog needs. Read more in Dr. Jen's Dog Blog  article.
Blue Pearl Pet Loss Support Group

When we lose them, it is very difficult. We feel a void, sadness, and grief. But we are not alone.

Blue Pearl Georgia veterinarian specialists understand and began offering a pet loss support group 10 years ago where we can gather with others and support one another.
The group meets virtually on Zoom most Wednesdays from 7:00 pm to 8:00 PM. There is no charge for participation. Reservations can be made by contacting Robin at 404-308-8731 or emailing rchisolmseymour@yahoo.com. She is happy to help.
