City of Roanoke Awarded $15.7 Million for Biotech Lab and Business Incubator


The City of Roanoke, in partnership with Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, Verge, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, and Virginia Western Community College, was awarded $15.7 million to build a biotechnology incubator in Roanoke. The collaborative effort brings together cross-jurisdictional, public and private partners to propel growth in the rapidly expanding biotechnology cluster. Slated to open in late 2024, this facility is well positioned to attract and retain biotechnology companies that spin out from the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and across the nation.

He was named a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors and a rising leader in his field with success in patents, licensing, and commercialization.

Downtown Roanoke's long-awaited restaurant and bar is scheduled to open later this fall. Six and Sky Rooftop Grille, managed by the Parry Restaurant Group, says the menu will include fresh seafood, specialty cocktails, classic steaks, and more. With over 90 seats indoors and a view of Roanoke, the new restaurant will take over the sixth and seventh floors of Center in the Square.
