Monthly Eagle Family Newsletter
Your Monthly Message from Principal Herman...
Hello Eagle Families!

Have you bought your tickets for our Flight choir Frosty the Snowman show? It starts TONIGHT at 7pm in the BPAC. You can also join us Dec 8th at 7pm or December 9th at 3:00 or 7:00pm.

With three weeks until Winter Break, this is a great time to encourage your student to get all caught up in their classes so they can leave for break and relax. Once we return in January, it is a pretty quick rush to the end of the semester at the close of January and then grades are final. Please partner with us in helping encourage your kids to stay on top of their academic obligations and learning. Thanks, Eagle Families!

As I think about our successes, our struggles, and our perseverance...I think... We are Eagles. Our staff are committed to the well-being and advancement of every single student in our building. And that means that we are committed to building a real community. As the parents and guardians of our students, you are a part of this team. We value your partnership. You are Eagles too. You help us to enrich the Eagle community through the support you provide at home as we work together to enrich your student academically, socially, and emotionally.

With Every Eagle at heart,

Marilee Herman
Principal - AHS
& Your AHS AP team...Nikki Anderson, Kyle Axelson, and Denise Eichler
Have your students been finding our Elf on the Shelf? We have 4 that are hiding around the building. Take an Elfie Selfie and send it to ASB.
Our departments are putting together monthly awards to recognize some of the great things our kids are doing!

Our Cheer team is so good at bringing spirit to our games!

Thank you for always being Eagles at heart, and coming to support our games!
Appointment? Leaving early?

Please send a note in the morning with your student to stop by the Attendance office and get a pass to leave early.

If you forget to send a note, please call in advance to excuse your student at 360.618.6300. You will then need to come into the office to sign them out.

PLEASE call before 2:00 for an early release.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS!

Congratulations to Sno-Isle Tech’s Students of the Quarter!
Four students from AHS have been named Student of the Quarter for their programs. The 4 include Janett Campos Cruz (Cosmetology), Logan Shipley (Construction Trades), Kendyll Simmons (Fire Science Technology) and JR Wyatt (Criminal Justice).
Janett Campos Cruz appreciates the Cosmetology program for all the new hair and skincare skills she’s learning. “It’s going to help me be successful in my career.”
Logan Shipley is enthused about the Construction Trades program he’s in. “I really like being able to move around and build things,” he says. “I enjoy it way more than sitting at a desk for six periods a day.”
Kendyll Simmons loves the Fire Service program because of how hard they work and how close they all are. “We truly are a family and we all root for one another,” she says. “It’s fun to be in a hands-on class and work with other kids who want to be there.”
JR Wyatt too finds his Criminal Justice program amazing. He credits the instructor, Myron Travis, for making the class special and influential. “He treats the class with a lot of respect and professionalism. He also expects a lot from the student. He makes the class feel alive and important.”

A NOTE FROM THE COUNSELING CENTER:

ATTENTION SENIORS!

It's college application season! Winter break is a great time to work on applications but there are some pitfalls to be aware of. Please be aware that if you have an application deadline during winter break, there are a few tasks that you need to take care of right now. If you have application deadlines that fall during Winter break, please be sure that all transcript requests are submitted to Parchment by December 8th. If you have applications that require letters of recommendation from teachers or counselors, please make sure to also request those by December 8th. The Registrar's Office and the Counseling Center will be closed during Winter break regardless of college application deadlines. If you need any assistance with college applications, please come see us. We would love to help!
IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE REMINDER FOR DECEMBER:

"If tardies to the first class students have upon arrival are to be excused (via Skyward, phone, or note) they must be excused by the time students enter the building. Students who leave for school after guardians have left for work need to contact them to inform them they will be late to school so their parents can call the school before their arrival."

WANTED: GRAPHING CALCULATORS
WHERE: MATH CLASSROOMS

If you have one of these at home, PLEASE return it to your math class or the office as soon as possible. Graphing calculators are for classroom use only.
Food Services: You may notice that the portal for making online payments to your student's food service account looks a little different this year. We're now using TouchBase for processing these payments, and if you already have a TouchBase login you're ready to sign in and make payments. If you don't have a login it will take just a few minutes to set it up. Please go to wa-arlington.intouchreceipting.com and follow the instructions to create your password (your username is the same one you use for Skyward Family Access). Automatic payments that were set up in the old system will not carry forward. Online payments are not posted to food service accounts in real time, but they are updated several times throughout the day and should be reflected in the account balance no later than 7:30 am the following day.
Each month, the Equity Department develops themes that focus the equity work for our district. The goal of the monthly theme is to provide resources and supports for teachers in order to bring awareness and appreciation to the diverse population of students in our district.

December's theme is Allyship. Please click this link to find resources for this month’s theme.

Character Strong - It Takes All of US!
This season, my family came up with 25 activities leading up to the holidays and then we select one from our calendar each night as a surprise. They are activities that all six of us can do together, like playing a specific board game, watching a holiday movie, or drinking egg nog.

The Family Character Dare of the Month is...

For our teens, our Weekly Character Dare is generally posted in the Commons, but we also share it on social media via @AHSFlyEaglesFly (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) where we have over 6,000 subscribers who can view these dares daily. By working on these dares together and talking about them, we grow closer and more connected. The kids get this opportunity together in Friday's Every Eagle Advisory. The Staff have Weekly Dares too! The more WE do as adults, the more THEY do as kids. Family Dares simply tie it all together... here's Character Strong's C.A.R.E approach! It's a fun, simple approach to building Every Eagle's Commitment, Patience, Humility, Selflessness, Kindness, Respect, Honesty and Forgiveness - traits that lead to success beyond AHS. Enjoy your monthly Family Dares!
