Celebrate the 45th Annual Ruthven Apple Festival With Us This Weekend! | |
As September comes to a close, come and celebrate one of Essex County’s most cherished traditions: the Ruthven Apple Festival! Celebrating 45 years, this treasured event showcases our local harvest, and this year is set to be bigger and better than ever!
Here’s what to look forward to:
- Farmers Market: Fresh apples and lots of local produce.
- Live Entertainment: Performances by local artists all weekend long.
- Craft Vendors: Over 125 vendors selling their wares
- Classic Car Show: Vintage vehicles on Sunday, starting at 10:00 a.m.
- Food Vendors: Delicious treats and yummy meals.
- Children's Area: Fun activities for your little ones, hosted by ArtLab Windsor.
Over the last 44 years, the festival has raised over $1 million for Community Living Essex County, with proceeds earmarked each year for the ongoing maintenance and purchase of wheelchair accessible vehicles.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day dedicated to raising awareness, honouring Indigenous peoples, and educating Canadians about their histories. It honours survivors, their families, and communities, while emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the legacy of residential schools as part of the reconciliation process. This year, many events in Windsor-Essex County are taking place to foster understanding, promote dialogue, and celebrate Indigenous cultures. Activities will include workshops, art displays, and community gatherings aimed at deepening awareness and building connections. Crystal had an awesome time at the Bourbon in Belle River on Friday, September 20, where she got to see her favorite band, Destroyer, a Kiss tribute band, during the Stroll the Streets event. She cheered and clapped along with the crowd, singing her heart out to all the classic songs. It was a night full of fun and great music that she’ll remember for a long time! | |
Recently, Scott, David, Ali, and Sacha got together to enjoy the final days of summer with a picnic at Ruscom Shores Conservation Area. Surrounded by nature, they shared good food, laughter, and stories, making the most of the warm weather before fall arrives. Join us on Sunday, November 10, at Ken Knapp Ford in Essex for the 30th anniversary of the Jingle Bell Run, Walk & Wheel! This festive event supports Community Living Essex County and offers a variety of options: a 2km or 5km walk/run, and a Little Elf Run for kids 6 and under.
Participants receive a commemorative medal and a 30th-anniversary sweatshirt. You can join individually or as part of a team, and festive attire is encouraged!
Entry Fees:
- Adults: $40 (Early bird $35)
- Ages 7-13: $25 (Early bird $25)
- Little Elf Run: FREE (starts at 9:45 am)
Registration Deadlines:
- Online: Until 4 pm on Nov. 5
- In-person: Until 4:30 pm on Nov. 5 at Ken Knapp Ford
- Race Day: 8 am to 9:30 am (No timed results for late entries)

RUBY - Personal Safety and Assault Prevention Workshop | |
Community Living Essex County is offering a free virtual workshop designed for teens and young women with intellectual disabilities. This 4-session workshop will cover crucial topics such as personal boundaries, self-respect, healthy relationships, and recognizing different types of assault and violence. The workshop is open to women aged 16 and up. There are 8 spots available, so be sure to register early. Registration ends on October 31st. As New Day prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary, the organization has updated its logo to a more modern design. Along with the new logo comes new merchandise, including t-shirts now available for $20.
