A Message from the Founder & Presidents

Happy New Year!

As we say goodbye to 2023 and welcome the promises of 2024, we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible journey we've shared together at Adopt a Golden. Your unwavering support has fueled our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Golden Retrievers in need, and we are excited to embark on another year of making a difference in the lives of these Goldens in need.

Our team would like to express our deepest gratitude for the tremendous support you've shown throughout the past year. Your generosity has enabled us to rescue goldens facing various challenges, from medical issues to abandonment. Together, we've provided them with a second chance at a happy and healthy life, and for that, we are truly thankful.

Looking ahead, 2024 holds the promise of more lives saved, more tails wagging, and more families completing their homes with the addition of a furry, golden companion. Our dedicated volunteer team is gearing up for another year of hard work, compassion, and collaboration with the AGA community.

There are, unfortunately, many goldens still in need of our help. Your continued support will play a crucial role in making a difference in their lives. Whether it's through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word about our cause, every action you take brings us one step closer to ensuring that no golden is left behind.

In 2024, we aim to expand our outreach programs, continue hosting adoption events, and increase educational initiatives to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership. With your support, we can make these goals a reality and create a brighter future for even more Goldens in need.

As we embark on this new chapter, we want to reaffirm our commitment to transparency and accountability. We will keep you updated on our progress, share heartwarming success stories, and involve you in the incredible journey of transformation that each rescued golden undergoes.

Thank you for being an integral part of the Adopt a Golden family. Your passion, kindness, and dedication inspire us every day. Together, let's make 2024 a year filled with love, hope, and countless wagging tails.

Wishing you and your loved ones a

Golden New Year!

Many of us create a short list of New Year's resolutions in January, promising to improve ourselves or pay it forward for others. Some of us with Golden members have made such promises to our beloved pups!

Nationwide Pet Insurance asked its fan base to share their New Year’s resolutions to their pets.

Orphan of the Month:

Franklin Senior

My press clippings all say I am the most handsome golden boy on the block. And that’s how you get the ladies! I am 11 years old and famous for being the dad of many, many, many puppies on a breeding farm. I probably don’t know any more than one of my puppies about living inside and being a family dog.

So I have to learn just about everything and it’s going to take patient people who are up to the job. I also need the kind of people who are experienced with former breeder dogs who can keep them safe (fence required) and help them make the change from kennel life to life in a home...

AGA Gives Back This January

Second Life

It’s the most wonderful time of the year to clean out our homes and closets! Please join AGA in collecting donations for one of our biggest supporters, Second Life ATL!

Second Life ATL is an amazing organization that was created to help animal rescues (they are not a rescue). Their mission is:

  • Promoting pet adoption and their love of rescue pets
  • Educating families about being responsible pet parents
  • Providing resources for other groups to help families keep their pets and to promote their animals up for adoption

They achieve their mission by selling items in their upscale thrift store. Proceeds raised by the sale of items in their stores are donated in the form of grants to animal rescues and spay/neuter programs.

Adopt a Golden Atlanta is grateful to have received grants in 2023 from this incredible organization.

Please review the items needed and bring all donations to AGA’s Meet and Match on Sunday, February 4 (location TBD). If you cannot attend Meet and Match, please contact philanthropy.aga@gmail.com to arrange pick up OR bring your items to Second Life’s thrift store at your convenience

Check Your Dog Once A Month on the 14th!

It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home.

Facts about Cancer in Dogs

Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.

Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog. We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Checking your dog will be a great little bonding time with your dog. If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.

Now how exactly do you do this?

Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.
