MONDAY MEMO
4th graders Eli, Peregrine, and JT baked with 8th grader Beatrice as part of her work for her 8th grade presentation on The Social-Emotional Side of Baking. Look at the schedule below of upcoming presentation topics so you can join the audience!
Hello Riverside,

There are no April Fools jokes hidden in this memo, we promise. Hope you're having a great day and this newsletter helps you get organized for the busy month ahead.

Happy Monday,

NOTES
LATIN DAY SUCCESS
7-8th graders had a fun, successful day at UVM last week showing off their knowledge of classical topics in competition with high school students from around northern Vermont. Many students won art prizes. 7th grader Zora Kane-Tornquist and 8th grader Beatrice Garvin made the finals for the certamen. And the group skit, which equated Emperor Nero with Gaston from Beauty and the Beast (so 7th grader Conall Kennedy and 8th grader Ignacio Montague got to reprise their duet with some new jokes), won 3rd place!
PARENT TRIVIA NIGHT
Thank you to the crew of parents and staff members who worked to make Friday's Trivia Night such a wonderful event. It was such fun to see the crowd of parents and friends together, enjoying food, drinks, and potentially valuable tidbits of information!
PK-5 CONFERENCES
PK-5th grade conferences are this Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4. K-5 will have an early dismissal at 12:30 on both days, and PK on Thursday only. We hope all parents will take advantage of this opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss student strengths, weaknesses, and goals.

You can sign up for a meeting time at the links below, and teachers will look forward to seeing you in their classrooms at the appointed time.

The Extended Day Program will run from 12:30-5:00 on those dates, please email Sean if you plan for your child to attend and when you anticipate picking up, so that staff can plan accordingly.
6-8 VCAP TESTING
Middle school students are taking standardized tests in mathematics this week. On the day of their test, they are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring snacks and a water bottle with them to their test sessions. Getting a good night’s sleep and having a healthy breakfast will help prepare their bodies and minds for this assessment. We anticipate students will finish by lunch time, although there is no time limit and we will give them additional test sessions as needed, They'll have a regular class schedule in the afternoon.
  • 6th Grade: Tuesday
  • 7th Grade: Wednesday
  • 8th Grade: Thursday
LATEST UPDATE! RIVERSIDE AND THE ECLIPSE
We hope everyone received Roy's email Friday afternoon announcing that we have cancelled our plans to take students to Darling Hill, and are asking that all PK-8 students are picked up at Riverside at 1:30. Of course, if it feels safest for your family to stay home all day, we respect that choice and will count it as an excused absence. There will be no Preschool Afterschool or K-8 EDP or After
ENROLLMENT CONTRACTS
Contracts for current students to re-enroll for 2024-2025 were mailed out last week. Please look for them in your mailbox and return them by April 8.
RAFFLE TICKETS
Please remember to return the half portion and money for any tickets you've sold, or complete tickets that you can't sell, by April 12. Organizers Claudia and Tonia are also still looking for help planning the event and soliciting donations, please email them if you can lend a hand.
8th GR PRESENTATIONS
As one of many culminating efforts, 8th graders are challenged to present to the school on a topic about which they are passionate, and can apply their individual skills and passions to community improvement in that area. We encourage Riverside parents and mentors to attend these assembly presentations and to be a part of the supportive audience that celebrates their efforts.
  • Wednesday, April 11: Firefighting by Savannah Loder
  • Monday, April 15: World Cup Mountain Biking by Sitota Larocque

TICK SEASON
We want to remind families that as the warmer weather comes, so do the ticks, and we've already seen them on campus! Our students are outside often: exploring the woods and tall grass, or sitting in short grass. We encourage students to check for ticks when they come inside, and hope that you will do full checks at home when changing clothes for bedtime.
SWEETHEARTS AND HEROES
On Friday, April 12 6-8th graders will go by bus to LI from 9:00-10:30 to participate in a special presentation and workshop for area students by Sweethearts and Heroes, an organization focused on developing healthy, positive social connections and relationships while fostering a sense of community and emotional resilience. Parents are welcome to join us.
EVACUATION DRILL
We will be having a campus evacuation drill on Monday, April 29 for all students PK-8th. If you have any questions about it, please email Roy.
