School of Nursing AHEC Scholars Gain Critical Clinical Experience

Working in underserved communities through the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars Program is delivering a lasting impact for many nursing students who often decide to seek out these communities when they graduate. The School of Nursing students gain exposure to diverse patient populations, conditions and concepts that they would not have learned about otherwise, making it a valuable opportunity.

After struggling to teach junior high school students about the about the integumentary system, or skin, during a course in community-based learning, Umayr Shaikh (M’26) was excited to learn about a dermatology curriculum developed for school-age children by medical students.

Center for Global Health Practice and Impact Builds Partnerships to Address Health Care Challenges in Eswatini and Beyond

Since its founding in 2019, Georgetown University Medical Center’s Center for Global Health Practice and Impact, headquartered on the Capitol Campus, has grown significantly in scale, people and partnerships. It now operates in 12 countries, including the Kingdom of Eswatini, where the center is leveraging the diverse expertise of the local community, prioritizing equity and a rights-based approach in all of its interventions while aiming to create lasting change in health care delivery.

DNP Students Present Doctoral Research Projects

The School of Nursing's 9th annual Doctoral Scholars Day showcased more than two dozen final research projects conducted by students from the post-master's Doctor of Nursing Practice and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the initiation of the DNP program, the first nursing doctoral program at the school.

American College of Physicians Selects Princy N. Kumar, MD, for National Medical Education Award

Princy N. Kumar

The American College of Physicians will present the Jane F. Desforges Distinguished Teaching Award to Princy N. Kumar, MD, MACP, at its internal medicine meeting in April. The Jane F. Desforges Distinguished Teacher Award recipient “presents the qualities of a great teacher as judged by the acclaim and accomplishments of former students who have been inspired and have achieved positions of leadership in the field of medical education, primarily as teachers.”

GUMC’s DCM Receives Full Accreditation from AAALAC

The AAALAC International Council has renewed full accreditation for Georgetown’s Division of Comparative Medicine led by Crystal H. Johnson, DVM, MPH. The Council commended Johnson and her staff “for providing and maintaining an excellent program” and for “the esprit-de-corps of the staff as demonstrated by collegiality with one another and commitment to the shared responsibility.” Renewal of the accreditation occurs every three years.
