Christmas Party & Food Drive - Friday, 12/15
|
Our annual tradition continues with our
adult Christmas Party
for members of our Council and Ladies Auxiliary on
Friday, December 15th at 7 p.m.
, jointly hosted with Mother Cabrini Assembly. We'll have a complimentary, informal, but very tasty hot buffet dinner with a cash bar. All we ask is that
each person bring a gift
for the less fortunate in our community, to brighten their Christmas season by helping them put good meals on the table for their families.
This year we are once again collecting donations for the St. James the Apostle Church Food Pantry. The pantry is stocked with canned goods and other non-perishables, but what they need for the holidays is supermarket gift cards so families can buy perishable items like milk, meats, and frozen foods, which the pantry cannot stock. So,
please bring $10, $20 or $25 ShopRite or Tops gift cards
to our party, and we will present them to St. James on behalf of the Knights and our families.

Please help our Ladies Auxiliary collect much needed items for

Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Soap, Shampoo, Body Wash, Bath towels, Wash Cloths, Twin-size blankets, Men’s slippers sizes 12-13, Men’s electric razors, Men’s after shave, Hair trimmers, Irons, Toaster Oven, Microwave Oven (.7 or .9 cu ft), Blenders, and a Sunbeam hot water dispenser.
Monetary gifts are also most welcome.
Donations may be dropped off at our council on Friday evenings up until 12/16, or contact
Gail Silke
to make alternate arrangements. Please give generously!

A Great Time at
Holiday on the Lake
Thanks to everybody who made
Holiday on the Lake
at our Council on December 2nd another great success!
|
|
There were boy scouts selling wreaths out front in the morning, and then in the afternoon, we opened our doors to the community for kids' crafts (and free hot cocoa and cookies for all!). We then held our
Children's Christmas Party
with a great pot-luck dinner and a visit from Santa!
|
|
After that, we marched in the Carmel
Parade of Lights
with our own float (with Mrs. Claus & McGruff!), handing out
several thousand
glow necklaces to the crowd along the way.
A great time was had by all!
Thanks to all of our hard-working volunteers and to our participants for turning out in-force. A very special thanks to our event chairman,
Anthony Falco
, for once again orchestrating such a wonderful event for the kids and their parents.

- Our home corporation is once again giving preference for our families who may wish to reserve our hall for a First Holy Communion or Confirmation party this coming spring. We are holding open rental reservations for council members only until January 15, 2018. After then, the hall will be rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact our Rentals Chairman to book your party ASAP, as these dates go very quickly.
- If you've been at the council lately, doubtless you've seen the beautiful new landscaping in our driveway. Our crew of volunteers replaced and upgraded all of the railroad ties along the side, installed nice plantings and a border where the oil tank used to be, and replaced the evergreen tree at the front corner (which serves annually as our Christmas tree). We are very grateful for all of our volunteers who work with our home corporation to keep making our Council home a better and nicer place!
- Great big congratulations to our Ladies Auxiliary for another tremendously successful Penny Social on December 3rd, and for wrapping up their fall Second Sundays Bingo nights with a packed house last Sunday! Our ladies have raised an impressive amount of money for charity and -- as usual -- had loads of fun and involved our community in the effort. (Their efforts have not gone unnoticed by the media, with great write-ups recently in Putnam Daily Voice, the Putnam Examiner, and the Putnam Press/Times.) We also would like to thank them for the beautiful new shades in our council hall, which make the room look great! Join us in a shout-out: "Thanks and well done, Ladies!"
- Holiday Blood Drive on Friday, Dec. 29th - Details will be posted, but please save the date and plan to donate at the Daniel O'Brien VFW Hall in Carmel from 2-8 p.m. During the Christmas and New Years holidays, the supply of blood is low, but the demand is high.
- Midnight Bowling on Saturday, Jan. 20th - We're planning a fun night of bowling at Spins Bowl in Carmel from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Proceeds will benefit our council's scholarship fund. We will only have a limited number of lanes available, so contact Chancellor Ralph Fleischman for more info and to save a spot.
