From your Editor

Spring is almost here, the snowdrops in Vancouver Canada are in full bloom and the bluebells are making a gradual appearance. This edition of the Wisdom Box is filled with news from around the world including our leadership awardees past and present. It is staggering to see what work all these hard working people are doing in their own countries. Their commitment to the Satir Model is unwavering.

Of note next month is Psychotherapy and counselling month and the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association is putting on events with the theme of Self-Care is Mental Health Care.

Please spend some time considering your own mental health care. Is this part of your mandala in balance with the rest of your life? What adjustments do you need to create harmony within, between and among?

Training in Thailand with Neuroscience and the Satir Model in the Sand Tray

Madeleine De Little

My time in Thailand teaching was amazingly wonderful. There was laughter, tears of relief, and singing every morning. I taught the introduction to Neuroscience and the Satir Model in the Sand tray for four days to 80 people (If I remember correctly) and then an advanced course on Transforming Trauma, Shame and Working with Families. The room was filled not just with chairs and people but tables of figurines and sand trays. I taught some theoretical concepts and did a demonstration daily and then it was down to triad work. The remarkable thing about the training was the 13 voluntary supervisors. They met with me every morning before class and then often at 8 or 9 pm. Most of them had been with me for several years of training and had integrated their learnings so that they could teach their triad groups. We stayed for 10 days at a beautiful Catholic retreat centre outside of Bangkok which provided lovely surroundings, a swimming pool and lovely food. I will be returning next year to do an Introduction again and an advanced course. Thank you to Dr Pranne for her amazing ability to encourage Doctors and therapists from all over Thailand to attend this workshop.
